It only happens to Candy White Golf's
Doesn't sound good, have you had it back to the service guys to check for error codes
I've had the car 2 1/2 months and this is the second time it has done it. I'm at the lights, they go green, I go to take off and ... nothing. I always have the stereo on so I just didn't notice the engine had died. I can't remember if there were any warning lights on the dash.
While this is annoying , what is worse is that the first time it happened, I couldn't start the engine up straight away. Some bright spark in Germany decided that it would be a bad idea to be able to turn the key forward to start it up (as you would when you first put the key in). Instead, you have to turn the ignition all the way off, then you can turn it forward to start it up. Took me some time to work that out. All the while my fellow motorists behind were encouraging my efforts with yells and horns. To be fair, if I was behind 'me', I'd be doing the same. Even when it happened last night, I instinctively went to turn the key forwards to start it. Only after a number of attempts did I remember the 'correct' way of starting it.
For those that think I may have stalled it... not possible. I always put it into neutral while I'm at the lights. Has this happened to anyone else? I hope this never occurs while I'm actually driving.

Are you only ever using 98ron fuel? I've heard of this happening before to people who've put in regular 91ron unleaded. Failing that, take it to the dealer and let them deal with it. It's a new car, their issue.
Sorry to hear about this. I'm also an owner of a CW MY12 5DR Manual GTI. I just rolled over 10,250km on mine, the only real annoyance I've found is it's a bit notchy from 2nd to 3rd gear.
There are any number of potential causes of engine stalling. Given this isn't a common problem with the GTI, it may be something simple like contaminated fuel (eg water or air in the fuel). (When you last filled up, was the petrol tanker unloading at the same time? You should always avoid filling at those times unless you can verify it's unloading into another tank.) Has the car been running rough at all since? Blowing any smoke? Pulling cleanly through the rev range?

Always use BP 98 (same servo which I've been using for the last 3 years). It's been 3 weeks since I've filled up and I use it 4-5 days a week (obviously I don't drive far ). If it was contamination, I'd expect it to show up more often. Car runs fine. No smoke, no nothing. Revs just fine.
If it happens again, I'll take it to the dealer.

Maybe a faulty coilpack?
Best to hit up the dealer and get them to scan for fault codes etc.
Also please let us know what the problem was when you find out.
It wasnt the hill start not letting go causing you to stall? I have recalled one person on here having that problem, personally i havent experienced.
Whilst I cannot provide any more advice on the already mentioned possible symptoms, my advice would be to turn your hazards on immediately and only then try to re-start the car. At this point, it is then PC to flip the bird to this impatient motorists behind you.
