Engine bay heat shield/ sound proofing eroding help!

Was checking the Oil in the Gold this evening and noticed the piece of material (not sure if its heat proofing or sound deadening) that sits clipped in under the bonnet has started to erode and upon touching the site of damage it crumbled even more.

Has anyone else had this issue? I had the engine cover off for the day to clean it, would it have been the extra heat that has eaten into this??

    Any help would be appreciated,

    Anthony

The lack of engine cover for the day has nothing to do with it mate. It still gets hot under there regardless of whether the cover is fitted or not.

I'd put it down to wear and tear. Sometimes those parts start to rot/disintegrate if they are wet a lot.

Is the car still under warranty? I'd take it in and get the part replaced.

Its just over a year old, so I'm going to raise it when I take it in to rectify the supercharger squeak and see what they say.
