    Electrics / firmware issues?

Hey lovely folks. Got a couple of odd issues that I've noticed on my Adidas GTi since its first service. Could be a coincidence that I've noticed these things since the service and could well be unrelated. The car was serviced at Elite Euro (formerly Golf Wagen) and they did no software work other than to check for error codes of which there were none.

The first issue is that the wipers do not stay in their retracted position when the car is turned off. When I use the wipers they retract fully and as I turn the engine off they step up into the ready to wipe position. I'm sure this was never the case until just now.

Second issue is with the stereo. Nothing specific but just general bugginess. Hanging in navigation of an iPod attached via MDI. Locking up when doing the same to the point that I had to restart the car (turning the stereo off and back on wasn't enough). Has only happened a couple of times in a few months but it seems to be a bit flakey at times.

Wondering what you all thought about that. I'm thinking of taking the car to the dealer for a software update/reset.

    Chris

The first issue isn't an issue, VW have designed the car to after a preset interval "flip" the wiper blade to the other side in order to get even wear out of the blades.

The second issue is an issue but is hard to track down. I had a similar amount of unexplained bugs in my RCD510 intermittently and had the dealer reset then later software update the system. Didn't really do much to improve the reliability, and by the end I just got used to "rebooting" the damn thing. The most common problem I had is when I would leave the car sitting for more than week due to being overseas and coming back to find the MDI wouldn't recognise the iPod.

There are firmware updates for the MDI, that could resolve your locking up issues.

As for the wipers, as above, they park at random spots at the base of the windscreen. There was another reason besides improving wear, relating to cold climates, but it escapes me right now.
