Although ACC not mentioned in article, I strongly suspect was fitted. NRMA report was for ACC in 'Auto" mode.
However I hope cost of replacement (quote, $4000+) is a pesimistic evaluation.
Re electronics in shock absorber, I think just an accelerometer, and of course, an electromagnet. Eg, computer as seperate module. (I hope not like Mercedes, one very big module, does just about everything, and a fortune to replace.)
I also hope that if something just falls to pieces in one shock absorber, eg, electromagnet or accelerometer open circuit, this should be covered by warranty. (Extended warranty included in my order)
There is enough pictures on the net and the module that is sticking out of the strut looks too sophisticated for it to be just an accelerometer or an electromagnet.
But hey, it is a safety componnent and if it saves you once, it's worth it.
