Mine did it again today. Pulled off the M2 offramp to Beecroft, sat at the lights for about 5 mins in 1 (M mode). Accelerated when the light changed, nothing. Looked at the dash-Gear=1. Revs=2-300rpm. Lift foot, reapply- Same thing. Shift to D-Same thing. N then back to D, all fine, but engaged with a thud. Drove off. Wish I had my camera at the ready!!!

If the fluid in the box could be measured - perhaps the people who are experiencing the problem could find something common. (ie. Fluid level too low, or too high).
Not sure if this helps, but I've experienced it many times without any lateral movement.

Particularly happens when going over a speed bump at about 15km/h, then as you finalise the speed bump, and roll out on to road and hit the gas as you try and get back up to 50-60km/h.. Slip!

Happened probably about 10 times now.. Only once though whilst accelerating at higher revs..

I had a MK5 GTI that went into false neutral twice, so this problem isn't just with the golf R

See - now that is a safety issue. Imagine being at a set of lights, it goes green, the car behind you is expecting you to take off. You're sitting there spinning in neutral, and they run straight up the back of you.

How old are the R's from people who are having this problem? MY11.5? MY11?

Touch wood I haven't experienced this yet but I wonder if the way you use the accelerator could have something to do with it.

I've spent most my time driving manuals so tend to give it about 10% throttle till I feel it start to catch and then go.

Do the people who are having this problem tend to do the same or are most of you just slapping the accelerator to the floor like you would in slushbox?

I have MY11 Golf R. Had 2-3 occasions of the round-a-bout issue when DSG appears to rev out in neutral despite being in 'gear'. On the weekend I was driving along highway when it started to go between 3rd and 4th every 2 seconds and revving like mad. Nothing I could do would stop it. Had to go into manual, brake and turn car off. Started again and all good.

That actually happened to me when i took a demo for a test drive when the R's first came out. I was on the freeway and the car just starting changing up and down between 4th & 5th continuously, i had to use the paddles to shift up and stay in a gear.

Thankfully has never happened in my car and only had the issue of going into neutral randomly once.

Interesting! I've had the 'neutral' experience about 6 times now, the last few were in manual mode 1st gear and it felt as if I was in a manual with the clutch still engaged. This occurred on the straight and turning, I backed off the throttle, re-engaged throttle and all good. Mine's a MY11 with 6500kms. Will raise this at the 7500km service.

Touch wood, and I know this is for Mk6 Golf's, but I have yet to experience any real issues with my DSG in the 3 Passats that I have had, a 3.2lt Passat V6 Highline wagon, then two R36 wagon's. I use the paddle shifts 99% of the time and it works brilliantly. I have had the occassional hesitation when shifting from a high gear to a low gear after initially going up the gears and then deciding to downshift, but this is only on the odd occassion.

I like the DSG so much that I am loathe to go back to a normal manual gearbox or, God fobid, to a normal auto.
