I found last night at the drags that the delay with launch control on the R's DSG made my R/T look like I was dead! best was 0.7 secs, worst 2 secs!!! Still had fun though, best E/T 14.2 @ 97mph, with a hot night and new tight motor!

So for me the hesitation is something that you really need to be aware of with the DSG, I'm now much more careful when I pull out into traffic.

So is this car really capable of these times that are quoted...? I video taped a 0-100 run, and it seemed like around 5.6-8 secs. Im feeling a late 13.. But a few people now are getting times that arent exactly screaming. They are good and healthy times, but they are not the 13s that I was promised from all the marketing and magazines.. Ive seen a places even quote a 13.3 for it. Motor (or was it wheels?) stated that they ran a 13.65, the same issue was comparing it to an EVO X, which run a 13.56.. So the BIG differences now are either tight motors and heat or something is up?

FAB.. we need you to run your weapon down the quarter and make this **** official. Is your car with APR goods.. the Goods? (it will make me sleep easier.)

I think new motor and heat were factors that prevented the times Motor ran, I was expecting high 13's at least but then some heavilly modded Scoobies, Evo's and MPS's weren't doing much better either! I'll go back once more, when it's cooler and it's run in some more, then I'll look at something to make it quicker

Does it still have the hestation like that in normal "D" mode (not using launch control)?

Despite all of the people whinging about delays on take-off, I reckon I can fit into small gaps in traffic with the DSG than I could with a manual.

Give us a shout next time you go down, might give mine a run or atleast be your support team..

As for the delay people are mentioning with the DSG i haven't noticed it at all, mine seems to move pretty much as soon as i depress the accelerator. I haven't tried out the LC as yet so can't comment on any delays there.

I am starting to believe it is how folk drive it and their expectaion of what it should do rather than a DSG issue

    Bingo.
It really is about how you drive it...

beg to differ here... my original gearbox in my jetta was woeful from a standstill... had a pause between when you pressed the go pedal and when it actually went... among other issues this gearbox is no longer, having been replaced leading up to xmas.
I have to say that the new gearbox behaviour is completely different to the original one and the pause on take off is now gone.
so probably not the way people are driving them... but maybe more of an issue with the gearbox or the mechatronics itself.

Been waiting for you to make more comment now you have had yours for a while, i gleaned from some of your posts that you potentially felt the DSG operation could do with some help. But the more I look at what folk are putting up there seems to be several weeks of driving and then the complaints seem to die down a bit, so I figure it is a move from the expectation that it is a V8 and really an aspitated 4

I had a 2008 era 6sp DSG and it had much more of a delay on take-off than the R's 2010 updated 6sp DSG. This may be similar to blutopless2's comments if he is talking about the 6sp in his Jetta (rather than the less performance oriented 7sp).

However, even back then, you could minimise the delay to almost zilch by not treating the DSG as an auto and thinking of it as more of a manual (which it technically is).

What I mean by that is, if you're sitting at a set of lights, and they're about to go green, and you want a quick take off, and you are in a traditional manual. You don't wait for the light to GO GREEN, then take your foot of the brake and move it to the accelerator and then move your foot to the clutch and hand to the gearstick, then depress the clutch move the gear, then accelerate!
What you do is you see (or anticipate) that the lights are about to go green, you've already got the clutch depressed, gear in first, and if the road is flat you're probably already off the brakes and onto the accelerator so that as soon as it is green you can start feeding in the gas and out the clutch.

Similar thing with the DSG. It's not an auto. It's not going to lurch forward as soon as you take your foot of the brake. What it will do as you "roll" your foot of the brake is start engaging the clutch i.e. the computer brain is slowly taking its "foot" off the clutch. And by "rolling" your foot off the brake, I mean slowly take it off (about the rate you'd release a clutch pedal during 1st gear take off etc). So just like when you are in a traditional manual, when you're at the lights and you anticipate (or see) the light is about to go green, "roll" your foot off the brake and move it to the accelerator. If you have timed that right, you'll IMMEDIATELY* take off when the light is green (*save for any regular "electronic gas pedal" minor delay that you'd get in the manual R too).

The same goes for merging into traffic at a left turn etc. Don't wait for your opening to take your foot off the brake and move it to the accelerator. Roll your foot off the brake as that car is about to zoom past so that your foot is on the accelerator as the car is literally in front of you, so that you're moving the second that they've past. Just as you would in a traditional manual.

The other thing which I haven't yet tried (or maybe I have and my brain is just on so used to the DSG being 2nd time around), is that if your foot is on the brake and you tap the accelerator, for the next "2 seconds" you'll have immediate response from the accelerator after you've taken your foot off the brake. The diff with this is you don't need to roll your foot off the brake because the tap of the accelerator has already partially engaged the clutches etc.
