There's been a been a few posts in this forum claiming that the DSG learns your driving behaviour, which have been rebutted pretty well by logger - apparently the learning process is actually for the DSG electronics to learn about the DSG mechanicals. Whatever it is that goes on, I found the DSG improved hugely over the first couple of hundred km.
And "rough though at times, or indecisive" doesn't sound like the DSG to me, although it described the Hyundai i30 hire car I had recently pretty well. The more usual DSG complaints are about hesitant/jerky low speed behaviour.

In addition to the odd behaviour I've described earlier particularly in reverse and particularly when going up a slope it can be very hesitant/jerky as cameronp describes, almost feeling like it was going to stall.
Despite all the comments I really do like it, just trying to unedrstand when it behaves abnormally.
Even stopping for 5 seconds with foot on brake at the top of the drive didn't change the behaviour of the DSG.
Fair enough - it was the only suggestion I could give... I think that it is just something you'll need to account for being the rather unique circumstances you have.
I'm still trying to get used to the DSG at low speeds and at take off - it really does feel like a manual. I hate the take-off lag as well. By the time the car moves the gap in the traffic is all but gone. I've tried turning the car off and pushing the accelerator down for 20 seconds trick - when I start the car and take off, it's nice and quick - but it never stays like that and goes back to normal - so maybe I'm not doing something right. The fact that the previous owner was using crap petrol didn't help either. Putting vPower in the car yesterday made a noticeable difference (there's only one BP that's not near my house and it was rubbish last time I tried it there at that particular servo)
You're wasting your time, learn how the DSG works and ease off the brake pedal (use the handbrake if you need to whilst you're learning) until the clutches start to grab whilst increasing the revs and you'll find you can take off with zero lag.
The only way you would notice the difference in the fuel is if you went from a full tank of 92 to a full tank of 98 otherwise you're not going to notice the difference between two 98 fuels. The fact that the previous owner was using crap petrol didn't help either. Agreed, wasting your time turning the car off and pushing the accelerator down for 20 seconds. My current belief it that myth stems from a VW procedure used on their traditional automatic gearboxes.

Currently I'm accelerating about 2 seconds before the need arises, or putting it into Sport mode if I need to get a move on quicker.
I am of the belief that the car had regular ULP in the tank before. I thought logger was the one that confirmed the procedure to work in another thread - must have my wires crossed. Thanks for your assistance thusfar in this and other threads too, guys.
