I don't find it jerky as I always wait for the gear to engage first before I press on the accelerator. I do the same with my old car so it's a habit for me to do so now. I guess people find it jerky if they press on the accelerator too early after they let go of the brake, only the find the gear not engaged yet. But overall I'm pretty happy with the DSG, and the popping sound from high rev upshifts on my GTI!

I dunno djooz. You can reset the adaptations (basic settings) in a plethora of areas - but I would not be going there unless you know what you are doing.

Stoney the DSG7 in the 118tsi does not have launch control. Maybe in the polo GTI it does, but I doubt it. If the feature is fitted to the polo gti it could only shorten the life of the DSG7, which by design should last untouched, for the life of the car.

Yes but I read in my users manual that you can have launch control 'switched on' of you take it to your service centre and ask them. So obviousley it has it, but it's not yet activates, so this way they can have it on record that you have been using it.

Any chance this one just happens to be activated?

I read that part of the manual as being Golf generic, in the same way it probably talks about how to use the clutch pedal. So am yet to be convinced the DSG7 has launch control.

Unlikely I reckon, because the poster was questioning if he was observing the Traction Control in action. Turning Traction Control off is a pre-requisite to activate Launch Control. So if he had left the TC on, he would not be getting LC.

But I am often wrong and it does seem like a half reasonable explanation.

Does anyone know if the polo gti with the dsg7 has LC?

Is it possible to program the DSG so it doesn't dip to 1st gear when rolling slowly, ie intersection with give way? First is a bit too abrupt at times and like a manual, as long as you don't come to a halt, you should be able to take off in 2nd.

So has anyone worked out how to stop the Manual mode from shifting to 1st at about 15kph? It's starting to bug the hell out of me. It doesn't do it in D or S mode, so why should it do it in M mode?

Mine doesn't shift into 1st in manual mode until I'm virtually at a standstill. So it's possibly to do with the gearbox's learned parameters for your driving style? If that's a case, a reset of the gearbox memory may resolve the issue.

Reset it and it still does the same thing. Could this be a varience in GTI Non GTI?

Ah, apologies, I didn't notice you have a 118TSI (just assumed GTI from your username, hehe). They use the 7 speed dry-clutch DSG, which is an entirely different gearbox (designed and possibly manufactured by a different company for VW?), with no doubt entirely different software, to the 6-speed in the GTI. Not to mention the different power/torque characteristics of the engine and its tune. So yeah, I guess that's an attribute of the 118TSI's shift programming.
