Another update VW have agreed to cover repairs I do not mind the occasional thing going wrong it's all about how you are treated when they do go wrong.

Dealers will always try it out and speaking up never hurts. Well done mate, that's how it should have been from Day 1 of the problem surfacing.

My DSG story. I bought a used mk6 R, private sale, one owner with all serving done by VW. About a week after I had the car I noticed a click/clunking on downshifts, mainly between 3-2, but it was audible from 5-4 sometimes. It also felt a bit 'forced' when downshifting from 3-2. I've read a bunch of forum posts, some saying its normal, some saying its not. Took it to VW for a service and asked them to check out the noise. Initially, they thought a software update may be the solution. The software update didn't fix the problem so they kept the car to perform further tests. In the end they replaced the gearbox. The new gearbox is completely silent. There are no noises and the shifts are silky smooth. So, if you're buying a used VW, listen for any weird noises!

Thankfully, it was still covered by the extended factory warranty so I didn't have to cough up the $11k it cost to fix!

Yep.. a new gearbox costs just shy of $10k then there's the labour cost.
