    Hello Fellow Dubbers
So my Trans Cooler has corroded (6 Speed tip tronic) Transfluid mixed with coolant.
Fellow member Piper26 hit me with the information 100% spot on, The Trans people reckon the clutches will all be damaged because of the water (approx. 2000km from the last trans service), Are they correct? If I install a new cooler flush the coolant system and dump the contaminated fluid and refill will fresh trans fluid, will this work or is my MK5 headed to an early grave...(Quoted $4500 for a rebuilt trans)
    Regards
    SG

Try the flush treatment. Transmission is fun to refill and fluid is costly. But give it a shot before buying a new transmission.

    Hi,

Apologise if this has been mentioned before but I searched for an answer but no success. Was driving our 2007 V6 Passat last weekend & a fault developed with the manual/Tiptronic shift. When shifting the gears from low to high & vice versa, the gears failed to engage & the instrument counter gear shift indicators lighted up all at once. However when I shifted back to "D", it started to work/drive again. Any ideas what causing this & is this a common occurrence? Thanks, Ian

Can't say I've ever heard of that one.

Scan for fault codes and/or make a booking with the dealer.

That sounds like the beginnings of a Mechatronic failure. Definitely get the dealer to look at it, and just be prepared in case it happens again and leaves you stranded.

Thanks. Have booked the car in at the VW Waitara dealer for an inspection. Do you know of any other reputable VW car repairer apart from the VW dealers in the Northshore, Sydney areas? Would be good to get a 2nd opinion....

Question DSG Shuddering - 3rd Party Tuning?

I had my mechatronics replaced and not long after, the same problems occur with the DSG. I have a relatively steep driveway and when the DSG plays up, it will shudder the car quite hard going up.

I have been able to do the "soft reset", by opening the door, turn the key half way, wait for the servo noise to stop, wait 10 seconds, close the door and start the car. Drive the car slowly changing gears at ~2000rpm fixes the DSG for a short period. This made the DSG wonderful to drive again - no lags, no shuddering.

I noticed that going back to and from work (<4km each way), it doesn't play up much during the week. But once I do some distance driving, ie. 30km trips, it starts to be stupid again. I tried driving in manual only, it eventually go stupid again.

Since VW does not care, has anyone tried a 3rd party option - to have the ECU retuned by a tuning house and have permanent - non fuzzy logic for the DSG? ie. it does not learn as you drive. It's just set as is.

I found when I "soft reset" the DSG, it works brilliantly, so I have the feeling this is more a software issue than a mechanical one.

It might fix the problem but as a provider, I'd not be giving any guarantees. Just how steep is your drive?
