So after 67,000km of trouble-free motoring I experienced the DSG "flash of death" yesterday afternoon. Turning right from a major road into a shopping centre car park, car went into neutral. Thankfully I had enough momentum to enter the driveway fully. Pushed the car to one side, turned off the engine, waited for a while then turned the engine on again, and the gear indicator in the MFD was still flashing (I did this several times). Car had to be put on the back of a truck and is going to VW Monday morning.
Experienced the shudder from 1st to 2nd (although not all the time and only when I'd driven for about 30 min). Had the 37G7 software upgrade at the 60,000km service in October '12 which fixed the shudder issue.
Hopefully VW get this sorted. Out of warranty by 6 months, fingers crossed for a goodwill repair and a loan car while they sort this out.
Was going to keep the car after the lease ends in September but now I'm not too sure...

Update: VW have confirmed that it is the mechatronics unit that has gone bust. The service centre is putting in a goodwill claim with VW, and asked for copies of all service receipts to date. They also asked if the car has been modified in any way (answered yes to front and rear bumpers and suspension and no to engine/gearbox).
Service manager has been pleasant to deal with thus far, fingers crossed it stays that way.
Just wondering - is anyone aware of / has anyone experienced a second mechatronics unit failing?

Why take the risk, someone with a 2013 R on the previous page DSG failed with 32km. Sell while your in front.

My Polo 2011 developed a hesitation in the dsg, and more scary it flat out refused to move when merging with traffic at times. Dealer was good, but the car issue was intermittent so hard to find. The shudder started happening and that combined with a return of the brake line rattle and dash rattled led me to conclude non German built dubs are not as good as homeland builds. That and the seven speed dsg is not as smooth or reliable as the six speed in the golfs.
All I read is problems with the 118 TSi so I opted for the 2.0 Golf and touch wood, it really feels head and shoulds above the Polo.
