Is this something new in a MKVI??
My MKV jetta sees no change in revs between 'D' and manual modes. Curious as to why the "idle" revs would change when the car is sitting still and effectively in neutral.

We're driving Golf R's which are meant to be the sports models...
Also, the Golf R has been praised by many reviewers with the lack of "off the line hestitaion" that they all complained about with all previous DSGs. I believe this change was something to do with that.

Idle revs is determined by the computers, so...

Exactly! They need to be driven.

I drove a couple of R32's before my R and it's definitely better off the mark.I even like the noise it makes.

I was reading an article regarding the VNT Turbo the other day and it suggested that putting around was no good for the vanes on the turbo, it needed to be driven hard to stop it from coking up; I instantly shared that with Mrs Hun and explained my driving style was now factory sanctioned.

With regard the DSG, I will never own another manual or slush box again. Mine has ~220,000km's on it and is still going strong. Had an issue through the week that the dealer thought was a DSG problem, but thankfully it turned out to be an issue with the injector loom.

    Respect.

Have you done anything special to your car in terms of maintenance?

Not really, just log book services since buying new and a few minor repairs, thermo fans, EGR Cooler Valve (warranty), BP Diesel exclusively, driven it like I've stolen it for much of those miles, general consumable type maintenance and that's it.

Cheap seat covers and rubber floor mats have kept the interior like new. I might replace the rubber/plastic components of the door trims soon enough, as it seems finger nails and jewellery take their toll after a while, but she's otherwise in much the same condition as when I took delivery. Thinking it might be time to replace the shockies, which would be the perfect excuse for a set of koni's or bilsteins.

Love the car, would replace it with another one when the time comes, but for now & considering there's plenty of used DSG's about, I think I will keep it just to see how long the engine and turbo lives.

I've also had a piggyback ecu, which has only been recently removed, but as soon as I get another piggyback loom it's going back in.

Naturally the paintwork has suffered some stone chips but I'll get a front respray and fix up a few shopping centre dings at the same time.

Can't rate the Golf highly, enough incredible value for money. Thoroughly recommend an extended warranty and disposing before expiry if you can't afford to replace any of the really costly repairs.

Has a 30 second to a minute warm up and usually bring the dsg to temp before giving it a hiding.

It will need to be a special car to take me back to a Gasser, and there's no way I'd own anything but DSG again.

I always warm my up before I take off and gingerly drive it manually until the oil temp comes up plus I always idle it dow for 30 seconds or more after a run.
I'm hooked on the DSG with its lightning fast gearchanges and accompanying BOOMPH.
