sorry its a Golf Mk6 118 TSI wagon dsg
yOU'RE LUCKY! mINE HAS BEEN BACK 3X FOR THE SHUDDER AND EACH TIME THEY SAY THE SIFTWARE UPDATE HAS (oops.. caps) fixed the problem.
Latest update was Wed last week. It shuddered Friday. Now it's shuddering even more and didn't change down to 1st when stopped on an incline!
Needless to say, I'm starting to get annoyed with my Golf!
118tsi hatch.
I so nearly went DSG for the first time and now am so glad that I didn't when reading stuff like this. I don't see any problems with the manual gearboxes on this forum. Are there any?
When you say in "'D' mode there is a slight hesitation", are you talking about when taking off from a standstill?
If you notice, in D your idle revs are ~800. In M your idle revs are ~1300. That's the diff ;)
The clutches engage quicker cause you're already revving higher in M.
Has anyone had the following with their GTI DSG
The following is happening more and more.
The story beings....
Over the last 2-3 months I have found that when I change gears under load (4k-5.5k rpms) I would get the fart noise some times. The other times it is like a full auto were the revs drop slowly and there is no fart noise.
I found that this mostly happens when the engine has warmed up or have gone for a highway drive or if I do a left hand turn and I am in 2nd gear and then when coming out of the corner and giving it some it does the full auto sound no fart noise change even though I am in manual and I change gears via the paddle\gear shift.
I first thought it is time to service the forge DV I have installed, I received a service kit from Forge and went ahead and change springs and cap and re-greased and put it back together.
Found that it was still showing the same symptoms. (DV Services was done 5 weeks ago)
E.g. Last night driving home along the high way I was able to get fart noise when I was over taking people and changing gears. But then suddenly with no warning when I went over take again there was no fart noise but just the auto sounds when changing, even though I was up in the 4k rpms and in 4th gear.
The following mods
Apr Stage 1+
Apr exhaust
Forge DV.
Carbonio CAI
Any thoughts on this issue would be great or if people have had the similar issue and they found a solution would be good as well.

I'm still yet to figure out how to consistantly get the 'fart' noises during gear changes. Manual mode seems to be the more consistant but D & S is more random.
It comes down to engine load and revs. If you are driving sedatively, you will not get DSG farts. If you're driving spiritedly, you will get DSG farts. If you're driving flat-out and shifting just before or within the redline, you will not get DSG farts.
The DSG 'fart' occurs as a result of the ECU momentarily cutting the ignition (spark), to prevent engine torque from being transferred through the partially open clutches during a gearchange (which is in fact a clutch/gearbox change). I guess the cut always happens on a shift, but you probably only notice it under heavy throttle at specific revs due to the nature of the exhaust and the frequencies required for it to resonate.
As Corey says, engine speed and load make a difference, as would the selected gear, and your mods (particularly exhaust mods, but also anything that affects engine torque to some extent).
I find it's much more noticeable in my car at 2500-3000rpm under heavy load, 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd, in manual mode (so I control the shift point, and the shift speed is rapid).
I'm currently onto my second DSG box in a MK6 TDI wagon. I still have a MK5 TDI also.
Have had the new one for a few months now and would have to say I prefer the way the MK5 DSG shifts and "thinks".
The new one seems to almost flare on changes and feels more like a torque converter auto. It felt the same in Tig's I test drove also. Then there is the downshifting everytime you touch the brakes - good idea but it seems to go down one gear too many on most ocassions leaving you needing to then accelerate on a down hill to get it to change up again.
The MK5 just seems to be a firmer more positive shift. I can understand for some this would be a negative.
All in all still far better than a conventional auto or CVT !
