If you suspect clutch slippage, do not start by looking for clutch position in VCDS. Instead start by comparing driveshaft 1 & 2 to engine rpm. If either of the driveshafts match engine rpm then the applicable clutch is NOT slipping. Conversely if the shaft associated with the gear in use differs from the engine rpm there is a degree of slip occurring. At times you may see simultaneous slip on both clutches during start off as the car launches in 1st but never fully engages the K1 clutch before K2 comes into play engaging 2nd. This is normal. I guess the issue here is how much slip is acceptable, if this is indeed the cause. But this method should clarify things for you.
You will only need to look at a single Group and 3 blocks so you will be able to pull a meaningful sample rate.

    005,1,transmission input, speed 3 (G641)
    005,3,transmission input, speed 1 (G632)
    005,4,transmission input, speed 2 (G612)

These blocks are for the DSG7 however it is likely they will be the same for the DSG6.

Well I think my MK6 has started to misbehave and start showing signs of this "undocumented feature" of the DSG.

Up until recently it's been faultless. Sure, the D shift points are too early for my liking, and the S shiftpoints are crazy for daily sport driving, and yes it has sounded somewhat clunky at low speeds over cobblestones. That's all OK.

But now, with just over 10 thou km's on teh clock, it's behaving wierd.. Or perhaps I'm making up excuses so I can drive my manual MX5 as teh weather is forgiving.

But the DSG seems somewhat slow to respond to accelerator inputs, with some sudden increased revs prior to gear engagement, and what seems to be much slower take offs. Some days, she's lightning quick, but on others, she's awful and uninspiring to give her the boot...

Decisions decision,, do I call teh dealer and take her in, or is it my mind playing tricks on me....
More opportunites have been lost from indecision, rather than wrong decision....

Thanks for the info, The DSG6 is slightly different and you're right that you can view that data in the normal measuring screen but it doesn't have an option for "turbo" data to increase the sampling rate (i think) like the advanced screen. However for the DSG module, VCDS crashes every time. Will try support and see how we go there.

In any case, I'll try logging the stuff you mentioned. Would be nice to see vehicle speed and selected gear (ie 1,2,3 not only D) as well

    Guys,

I'm taking my car back to VW tmrw for them to check this 2nd gear bulls**t..I did chat to the Service Mgr and he says it's the software and fuzzy logic so all-in-all everything is normal. Still...it's going in tmrw to confirm it has the latest software.

Is there any way I can check to see whether they've done any work on it?? Can I check the software version that's on now and compare with after the service??

From your experience, are there other small niggling issues that should be looked at on the 1st service?? Thanks!!

Ive just had my DSG Golf to Barloworld ''again'' First time couldn't remove faults in the DSG VWA couldn't diagnose the problem so all data sent to Germany, VWG told Barlo to upgrade all the soft ware for the box,
2nd time upgraded all software but all faults remain. VWA said they have never had a reading like mine and are unable to suggest a remedy, so all the new data now sent to Germany again,
The car drives normally except on take off where it hesitates and i have th feather the accelerator to get the gearbox to engage ,so now i have to wait to see what the outcome is,
Bea from Camden GTI said it was the metronic in the box needed replacing but they wont do that until all other avenues have been exhausted.
A;so today lifted the bonnet and found the grommet around the dipstick was under the engine cover and the vacuum hoses at the rear of the engine were hanging loose not in their saddles .

Just on the topic of DSG stuff, while poking around the DSG module of a mates RS5, I noticed a field "Launch Control Counter" hehe. Bet that gets pulled out at warranty time!

The measuring blocks file for the DSG6 fitted to the R doesn't have that field, but I wonder if its saved somewhere else. I reckon my R has done it 50+ times now hehe

Hey guys. As there are obviously several different Golf models, and also 2.5 different DSG gearboxes (7sp, 6sp, and 6sp AWD diff for the .5 ) can you please indicate which car it is that you're posting about for all of us who can't remember...

(unless it's in your sig or avatar of course)
    Cheers.

thought I'd put a little pussy among the pigeons.
I've been noticing a marked improvement in the DSG. Maybe my driving style has changed; a bit more aggression, a bit more acceleration. The gearing hasn't changed, but I have noticed a much smoother shift through the gears then when first picked up. Stage 1 has helped eliminate the lag or that soft spot at around 45-55kls. Personally, I've always been impressed with DSG, but as most have said in this forum and the response from my questions directed at VW, 'over time DSG will improve', I don't mind confirming that they were correct.

There's a fix for that too, although this isn't the appropriate thread. Short short version: don't open the roof all the way (just to the last fixed notch on the dial), and ensure your front windows are only slightly open at most and rear windows are fully closed. If you have a search you'll find detailed discussion on this problem elsewhere.
