    Lol.... I'm not sure if you literally mean it's already on the floor, and then the click is it literally forcing its way past the "bump stop" (or whatever is there), or whether you are talking about the regular "light resistence" point where it then presses a switch called "the kickdown switch" (as discussed in the owners manual from memory).

    The 1st option would be pointless. It's electronic so once you're at 100%, there is nothing more. The 2nd option means that the car will kick down a gear or two once the switch is pressed rather than hold the gear its in (even in "manual mode").

    Just a quick update from my servicing for those interested.
    1. DSG shuddering under braking while downshifting from 2nd to 1st gear and lifting foot off brake pedal within the last 1-3m of stopping, apparently this is 'expected' of these types of gearbox and is 'normal'. Dealership 'computer' checked the gearbox and found no faults, so I guess it's the driver being overly sensitive
    2. Bonnet not releasing. Is in fact, as some you have suggested, (for some reason) the cable detached itself/came undone. Fixed.
    3. Also got them to realign my steering wheel, it was a bit off to the right by about 2-3 degrees.

    2 mins into my drive home from the service centre, noticed another commonly discussed issue, the ticking sound coming from the door pillar (near the seat belt). Overly sensitive again? Just turned the music volume up to help ignore the ticking.

    DSG and Engine braking when on steep hills

    MK6 TSI 118KW - I have noticed that the new DSG software appears to insist on engaging lower gears (engine braking) as you go down steep hills, which I find quite annoying, I am unsure whether this a setting one can change, anyone know?

    My MK5 GT never seemed to do this or least I never noticed

    My GTI (6sp wet clutch DSG) does the same. If you leave it in D and apply the brakes on a decline, the engine will downshift one or more times until you're travelling at a relatively constant speed and can roll down the hill without riding the brakes. A slight touch of the accelerator and it'll cancel that mode and drop you into higher gears.

    Personally, I think it's a great feature. But if you want to avoid it, just flick the car to manual and drive with the shifter down steeper hills.

    Why do you find this annoying?
    This is how you are supposed to drive when you are in a manual car.
    1) It doesn't use any more fuel. In fact, it's using 0 fuel as the motion of the car is pushing it along (you can confirm this via your trip meter's instantaneous fuel usage).
    2) It means you don't have to use your brakes as much
    3) In the old days, it'd mean that when coming down mountain roads, you wouldn't crash and die from brake failure after your brakes over heated because you didn't change down gears and utilise engine braking

    So yeah, why would a feature that makes an "auto" act more like a properly driven manual car, saving you fuel and brakes and thus money, be annoying?

    Like you say Corey_R, you cannot have the zero fuel flow without a gear engaged or the engine will stall. Dunno about the 6 but with the DSG7 if you were to drive along at say 100kph in 7th and take foot off accelerator pedal & lightly brake, it will work its way down thru all the gears keeping revs just above idle, while to the driver you are just mindlessly coasting to a stop. All the while fuel flow will be zero. Eventually when speed drops to a point where there is insufficient energy to windmill the engine just above idle, it will re introduce fuel and presumably ign. Very clever I reckon.

    Thats all you have to do.... press the go peddle and the engine braking will go away.
    Myself - I love it! Especially in sport mode when the engine does the "blip" before changing down a gear. Wonderful sounds from the supercharger and turbocharger. We twincharger owners can experience some beautiful sounds that the "turbo only" crowd cant hear. Boy do I love it. Stick your twincharger DSG into sport mode for a day and revel in the beautiful sounds. Wind the window down!!!
