Except that the car displayed the problem described before the mechatronic replacement, and after.. and as you know the car was treated with care.

The only thing I can't vouch for is the gap in the mileage between when I traded the car and when thezoneR32 went for his drive (around 300-400km).

However the issue described sounded similar to the one that was driving me nuts as well. On the plus side the problem didn't appear to worsen and I never got any false neutrals or any other odd behaviour. I now completely understand the love/hate thing with the gearbox and the car itself that others have reported over the years.

I don't believe in this mechatronic unit learning from different drivers thing. Is this really true? Is this stated in any VW document anywhere? Really curious.

I have seen differences depending on if accelerating up a hill the car will hold a gear longer as it knows it is on an incline but that's about it in terms of "awareness".

When I scanned your car and checked for the software updates, there was one for the DSG. So, the dealer should update it for free, when it was still under the warranty, otherwise I charge just for the time taken for those software updates.

Correct - they showed as much interest in updating that as they did with my other DSG issues (ie. none). I had to speak to four different people to explain that the cars even had software updates from time to time. :)

Which is why I was surprised they didn't even flinch at doing the mechatronics.. perhaps easy money for them on charge-back to HQ.

Be interested to see if whoever bought the car pops up on the forum here at some point.

I had my 60, 000km service done on Monday, with the DSG service and oil change. It has made a vast improvement to the smoothness and refinement of the gearbox operation, particularly at low speeds. I didn't even notice there was anything really wrong with it prior to the service but can definitely notice a substantial improvement now.

that's exactly what I experienced! although mine only had done 28,000km (with Nov 2010 built) when the dsg oil was replaced, yet the improvement was very noticeable and i am actually enjoying the smoothness now :D

I get my servicing done at Austral VW. I've found them to be good. They quoted me $1400 over the phone, but because my car is a fleet lease I get trade pricing. Final cost was $988.

I see. Is that just dsg or the full 60km service?

That's the full 60k service. All my other services have been around $350
