To the best of my knowledge, yes, it is the same gearbox as the Golf.

Whilst there have been revisions of the DSG gearboxes used by VW over the years, I believe that the 6sp DSG and 7sp DSG remains basically the same across all models....

... the exception to that has recently appeared with the introduction of the 7sp DSG for the Tiguan and Transporter (and other commericals?) models. They're actually using the "550NM" 7sp DSG developed by Audi. Someone else with more knowledge on the topic could probably talk to this, as I thought that the Audi DSG was longtitudinal whereas the Tiguan is transverse... but I'm not interested enough in those models to have looked any further

    Cool thought so thanks Coreying.

Yeah I remember seeing that thread about the Transporter/Audi gearbox so wasn't sure if there were a few variations on the 7 speed getting around.

    Thanks!

Hmm... dealer just called to give me an update of what they're doing (diagnostics etc).

I told him that the Passat gearbox feels so much smoother than mine. He told me it's not a direct comparison as the gearboxes in Passats, Jettas and Golfs are all different and have different part numbers, they all use dry clutches instead of wet clutches but they are different gearboxes.

I told him I thought they were all the same but kept telling me their not

Well, all the 7sp's fitted to the Golf/Jettas/Passats are dry clutch, and whilst it's quite probably that they have different part numbers (different cogs/ratios may be required in different cars, different mountpoints/mechanisms etc), it's the same "DSG family" if that makes sense.

Either way, no point arguing semantics with the dealer, just as long as they address the issue

Yeah true, that does make sense.

Agreed, just want it fixed, they've got it for a few days so hopefully they'll find the problem!
