How to fit Golf Ball dimpled DSG Gear Knob from GTI Adidas on Normal GTI?

    Hey guys,

I cant be the only one here that thinks the Golf Ball Gear Shift knob that is fitted to the GTI Adidas is awsome and a good nod at the MK1 GTI?

I was wondering if it is at all possible to install this on a normal MK6 GTI?

I have found the part on TM Tuning:

VW OEM MK5 GTI Edition 30 DSG shiftknob

However it says in the fine print that its for the MK5 GTI, however it looks exactly the same as the MK6?

Does anyone have a guide on how this can be done?

    Regards.

I know a few people have also done this on the MkV however it wasn't a straight swap. The issue is that the non R/GTI shifter have the shifter release on the side however the sport versions have the shifter release on the front. There is a way to overcome it and will see if I can find the link (pretty sure it was on GolfMkV.com).

    cheers,

The dimpled golf-ball look doesn't work for me - I'd rather get this one:
VW OEM MK5 R32 DSG shiftknob

Does anyone know if the MKV R32 shifter is the same as the MVI GTI shifter?

Looking forward to Paul's extra info as well. My dad's Ford has a shifter with the release at the front which I prefer to the T-bone.

It looks virtually identical - the only difference being the colour of the stitching.

From some of the pics on another thread, it looks like the 2011 models have a different gearshift knob?

One fairly straightforward-looking upgrade is the Audi A3 DSG knob (which retains the silver button at the 3 o'clock t-bar position).
There are DIY threads out there to heat and twist the plastic rod inside the shift lever -90 degrees, to the 12 o/clock position.

Has anyone local done this? Many people just heated the plastic rod with a lighter until they could get a twist complete; others may have used a couple of heat guns.

Good step by step guide. Great result with the Momo knob!

If you don't want to do the 90 degree twist, use the A3 shifter. Would suit some cars:

Anyone done either and have the shift button properly cabled up, per the guide?
