    DSG Gear shift knob

Hi all, I am can't afford a GTI but would buy a 118TSI Comfortline with sport package. However, the gearshift isn't that beautiful (took bulky) and would like to get the "Sports gearshift knob" as shown in the option catalogue. Has anyone done that ? Would you know how much it cost ? Would anyone have a picture of it or is it exactly the same as the GTI ? Thanks for your help !

I was (and still am) in the exact same boat. I rang a few dealers trying to find out about this option. None of them had a clue. Some said it was just for manual (I am getting an Auto)

As you said, it is listed as a dealer fitted option for (p34 catalogue).

I would be interested as well to find out how to get the GTI (Auto) sports gear knob.

The GTI was out of my price range, especially if I added the options I wanted. I still would like to make some after market changes to give my 118TSi a more "Sporty" look.

It is around $400 + installation. Check with the service department, the pricelist is in the folder near the service desk.

Sorry, don't know the parts number. Shouldn't be that hard, I think the labour charge was 30minutes for VW service.

    GTI gearknob

It looks like not many people have been doing the exercise of replacing the standard DSG gearknob with the GTI one.
I have enquired at 2 different dealers: one told me it wasn't possible, the other quoted me $788 for the part + $130 for install.

I am now wondering if it is worth it...

What do you think about the standard DSG gearknob while using the geasrbox in the "manual" mode ? Isn't the GTI gearknob better to switch gears up/down ?

i was in the same boat like you guys, when enquired was told something more than 500, which is not worthy get done. I agree, GTI gear knob is much better in terms of using manual mode.

Ring up the parts department directly. I picked up a part for my Golf yesterday and asked about the Sport gear nob. Its $255 inc Gst , not sure about installation cost or how it looks.

That $255 gear stick is only for manual gearbox though...

I have no problem using the T-bar to go up and down through the gearbox. Now, if I was going to get anything off the GTI it would be the paddles.
