    Driver's side window replacement

Some lowlife smashed the driver's side window, just to get the gps unit.

Can someone give me an idea how long it would take to get it replaced, and how much it could be (I'm wondering if it's worth making an insurance claim)?

Do I take it to VW, or someone like O'Brien?

    Thanks in advance.

What a shame - although items like GPS's are one of the most popular items for petty theifs to target as they are dead easy to pinch and easy to offload for a few bucks. Always take them with you, or hide them at the very least.

Im sure somewhere like O'Briens can supply a new side window for you.

This is a situation where your insurance cover is tested. If you've got a good one, windscreen cover also covers side windows. Mine didn't (I'm with AAMI), thus I had to pay out myself (or pay the excess, lose no-claims bonus etc).

O'Brien will be the most expensive one. I got quotes at around $230 fitted for non-VW glass by calling around to a few different windscreen repair shops. VW Glass will cost much more. In the end I went with someone who quoted me $175, but they did a half assed job with the door handle coming loose etc.

    I'm with AAMI too.
I called O'Brien and they quoted $498 and can do it today (friday). I guess I could call around, but I want it it done asap.
