    Door rubber rubbing paint off!

    Hey guys,
Have been searching topics for relevant descriptions without much luck.

Corey, sincere apologies if this has come to light previously.
What I have, may, or may not be related to the old door/wind buffering problem.

It looks as though it's been happening for a while, though I only discovered it very recently.
It is a 2010 Golf GTI.
(Yeah, I rarely use the back doors, and it doesn't get washed enough for me to notice it earlier...
    )

I have paint wearing off on the inside of both rear door arches.
The Dealer was made aware of it a few weeks ago (at service time) and claimed to "never have seen that!"...
They took a load of photos and were in contact with VW in Germany.

I have just taken these quick snaps myself (overcast, not the best pics )

This is the driver side rear opening..

And it would appear that the "seal" is the culprit.
Excuse my bad photography......Seal hi-lighted by the red circle.

There is a rub mark that extends up from the area most affected. The area which is the worst is approx 25mm long.
The area (inside arch) looks to have a seam, so whether mine was not cleaned/smoothed enough prior to painting??? Who knows. The passenger side is NOT quite as bad.
This may or may not be a potential problem for us all.

Has anyone else had/or are having, this kind of problem?
    Cheers gang

    Door rubber rubbing paint off!

Had it on our GTI and occurs on our R

Never actually went through the paint on either car though

A hand polish with a mild polish/All In One, removed the marks.

I've got a synthetic sealant on the R now and it seems to have reduced the issue.

I also get discouloration at the bottom front of each door sill where the bottom door rubbers touch the paint and also at the base of the B pillar and front bottom of the rear doors

Looking at a few other Rs over the past year, all had it to some degree. In a couple of cases, worn through the clearcote.

Edit - has yours ever been in an accident or had the doors repainted ?

Could be just a poor door alignment.

The sealing rubbers can becole a little hard and abrasive, and rubber will have a good coefficient of friction. Try and rub a little vaseline (you actually wipe most of it off) on the rubber seals so that they are supple. You can also get special rubber grease. Again, most of it is wiped off. You only need to have enough to keep it supple.
