    Dodgy armrest on centre console

I've had my Golf for 4 days, and it has a nice armrest on the centre console, or so I thought.

Today a piece of plastic broke off the hinge and it won't close properly any more. It sits about 9cm above the compartment now.

The dealer explained that its adjustable to 3 levels. You just lift it and you can place your arm weight on it... when you want to reset it and close it completely, you're supposed to pull it right up and then back down again.

Needless to say, I'll be taking it right back to the dealer tomorrow.

    Anyone else had problems ?

Little tricky at first, but don't force it close or it will break. If you want to close it then lift it up little till you hear a click, now you can close it

    Sounds like Operator to me.

I assure you, I tried lifting it all the way up and it didn't help.

It was working perfectly for 3 days, but I could actually see a piece of curved plastic come off from the right hinge inside the console. I think its fallen inside and could be causing it to jam now. I can actually see the metal surface on the right hinge inside the console.

Funny. Exact same thing happened to me about 3 months ago; down to the plastic hinge cover breaking off, falling down and exposing the metal hinge itself (left hinge in my case).

It happened on a particularly hot day, so I suspected the heat may have softened the plastic hinge cover to over-extend itself when the armrest was fully drawn back.

Went to the dealer and got the armrest and hinge parts replaced under warranty.

They mentioned it was the first time they had seen this happen.

Went to the dealer and they are ordering in a replacement part.
Strange coincidence..mine was on the right hinge (i.e driver's side hinge)

The exact thing happened to me at delivery.
The manager was demonstrating the armrest, when the hinge broke, with a piece that fell down inside the armrest.

They fixed it there & then, before I drove away.

It's obviously a design weakness, but the problem hasn't reoccured.

    hi

    just got my golf 118tsi

am having some problems having the armrest to lock into position!

the armrest is not jammed or locked in any way as described above, but rather it does not lock in any of the 3 positions

    1. it can close fully

    2. however when i try to lock it into place it takes many many tries until it locks into a single horizontal position

am i missing something? some latch perhaps that i need to press?

any help would be appreciated as i really do not want to call the dealer sounding like a fool
