Do you actually use the DSG, or is it always in automatic mode?

Around town / traffic, I let it do its own thing. I hardly ever use S unless I need to get away quick from the lights. The DSG is a bit smarter than me at selecting the right gear to suit a myriad of variables, although it is nice when I get it right in M mode.

I do however put the selector into N if I am stuck in peak hour traffic. Take it out of D, S or M+- for the time I am sitting in queues which is a lot in Sydney.

I've read (but haven't had confirmed) that VW don't recommend this behaviour because by putting the gearbox in neutral, it's not circulating oil and cooling the gearbox and clutches as it otherwise would. I'm not suggesting that's correct, but in the absence of definitive evidence to the contrary, best to be aware of it.

Car is pretty much in S mode all the time (appears to be much more well behaved than it was in our GTI, where it was a maniac).

D mode in really really heavy traffic and if I use it other times, I mix it up with the paddles.

Manual mode rarely these days. If I was only using manual mode, I would not have bought a DSG.
