    Whilst I'm by no means endorsing OziCozi or the VentureShield product, the installation on the A4 was great and I believe that VentureShield is owned by 3M and so the products are very similar. So shop around - there are plenty of other places easily found in Australia using google

    On the OziCozi installation of my friend's Audi A4, the film wraps around the 'forward facing edges' of the body panels and bumper, so that even edge chips won't occur.
    And for people who are really concerned about stone chips, you can get the entire bonnet covered, as well as things like side skirts, front of rear guards, door sills (to protect from chips from high heels etc) or pretty much the entire car covered if you want to.


    So yeah, it's more expensive than doing what wdong did and get one of those 'protection policy memberships'. But the thing is, they have limitations and all they do is repair the damage AFTER it occurs. What not protect the car from damage in the first place?!

    The 3M product is very interesting the only thing is how do you know the paint isn't damaged under the film.
    Stone chips are formed by an impack to the surface so with the film inplace how do you know the paint hasn't been damaged .The only way to find out is to remove the film and being in close contact with the paint surface how will it stop it .

    Being an expanel beater over the years I have found stone chips move higher up the bonnet when bonnet guards are used just the front edge is protected .

    I've been wondering about getting this type of film installed - particularly on a dark car like the Carbon Steel.

    My main concern is to get the inner part of the door handles done for long fingernails (not mine of course).

    But if I was to get the front done, I wouldn't want it covering half the bonnet - surely you can tell the line is there where it stops?

    @gtimal - I believe the coating is a mylar based product (same thing developed for the tiles on the space shuttled) and was originally developed in the film form to protect the helicopter blades from sandblasting in desert warfare (Gulf war etc).

    I don't claim to be an expert on these products, so I won't claim that there is no possibly way you'd get a stone chip go through the film to the paint, however, the damage you'd more likely be see is if a ROCK hit the film and caused a DINT in the bodypanel which is so large it CRACKS the paint underneath (I'd need to be a large rock, cause normally dints usually don't even cause a crack in the paint). Cause yeah, I've seen demos of them shooting a shotgun at the film from the distance of a few metres, and the film contained the pellets!

    And yes, you're correct, I'd personally want to get the entire bonnet covered as I've too had stone chips all the way up the bonnet from highway driving. The regular half covered bonnet would probably be fine for city driving though.

    @elisiX - the film is pretty good. From the distance of say 2 metres you just can't see it. Standing upright directly in front of the car, it's still difficult to see, but you can if you know it is there. You really have to lean down to see it clearly.

    That is why I have had my whole car done with Ventureshield and it was well worth the cost.

    On steel panels, the film will not stop dents if the hit from the debris is hard enough (the paint is not damaged however). On plastic parts like side skirts, the paint is protected. My side skirt suffered a very hard hit by a pebble/stone while the plastic film has blistered, the paint underneath is unharmed - being PU, there is no dent on the skirt.

    Someone side swiped our car recently which normally would have meant a respray of the panel and adjacent panels. There were long scratches on the front qtr panel and side of the bumper.

    The film took all of the damage and all that was needed was for the panel to be knocked back using PDR. The paint on the car is still factory original and they didn't have to remove the panel from the car. I wish I had taken photos as a record of this.

    WOW, that is AWESOME feedback!!! I knew the stuff was good, but never realised it was THAT good!

    Out of interest triode12, which model car did you have this done on, how much did it cost, and where from? (and if it's a MKV Golf, do you have colour coded side and rear lower bumper as well?)

    You got ripped off, you should see if you can cancel as you just gave the dealer a heap of profit. PPF is much better value and actual protects the paint, stop chip repairs look like rubbish and the work done by Quattro will be what you can do with a paint pen for $15 from the spare parts desk.

    They won't come out for free at all. Perhaps you should have read the terms and conditions before signing up and giving the ming mole a big commission and allowing the dealership to get back same of your discount. It's $55 each callout and they will only fix one to two of the same items per callout so you have to keep calling them out.

    Thanks Mav. I couldn't be bothered looking it up before, but I'm glad someone did and posted this, because these things are REALLY a rip off. I mean seriously, these companies wouldn't be in business if they were a good deal! So everyone take note, if you are really concerned, buy the PPF!

    It cost me $2.5K from UniversalTint in Brookvale (speak to Chris, mention me and he will give you a discount). The other applicators wanted $4K. Yes, I have colour coded sides and bumpers.
