Honestly, does it really matter what other people think of your car?
I cop it from so many people for driving a hatchback, saying it's a "girls" car... pfft who cares, I love my car!
I've gotta be honest, before I discovered the sublime GTI, I always felt little hatchbacks were for poor uni students or young women given they were cute and unintimidating.
Even though the hatch is larger and more functional than say, a coupe like the A5, 3 series coupe, 350Z, RX8 etc., somehow the coupe shape has a more "manly" presence.
I used to drive a 200sx at uni and I always got a "wow, nice car" from guys and girls.
I never get that response with the GTI. Of course, one of the reasons I drive one is that it is stealthy, not showy, to me a bit more mature with 5 drs etc......but I do miss the admirable looks my old coupe used to get. In fact, most people at work who see me drive my new GTI, don't utter a single comment at all, except one chap who was "in the know" about the GTI heritage and its hidden performance.
Thoughts?

Yes, the GTI is definitely a girls car.

The Polo is a girl's car. As is the Eos, in my opinion.
The Mk6 GTI looks a bit meaner and definitely looks less of a handbagwagon than the Mk5, if you ask me.
Like Lorenz said.. It's your car. If you like it, who cares what anyone else thinks of it!!
...... Anyways.. Try driving a red Caddy van as a daily.. Everyone calls me Postman Pat!

Hot hatches have that reputation in Aus due to the "Bogan Mobiles" of Ford and Holden. These have been marketed and sold as the Australian car with their large Large size and big engines so everything else seems girly. In Europe though Hot Hatches are seen at the manly wheels and have more of a "hoon" reputation so you could say its a cultural thing![]()

I always thought the Golf/Polo's were a a bit of a hair dresser's car, cause of the hair fashionistas and/or women and/or gay crowd that I always see rolling in them. They absolutely love these cars!! I dont mind them myself now after driving them, but its the truth. Particularly the Polo.
Answer to Original poster, yes, its definitely a girly car. If you dont think so you are lying to yourself. Nothing some beefy styling couldnt fix. Think R32 but on steroids.

I get a lot of that as well, some friends call it a girl's car since it's a hatchback but little do they know that a GTI would outrun their car anyday. They were comparing suzuki swifts to a GTI, sigh, since they dont know much about golfs, it was pointless to argue with them. But they won't influence me since GTI is my favourite car <3 . Even though, you might not get a lot of heard turns due to looks (not saying it looks bad, but just average), but once its on the road .... i bet people will be very suprised =D

Clearly you're not the target audience of the Golf GTI. You should give yours to me since it's so terribly girly and I'll go flog my 118TSI to some other poor sod
Incidentally, there are lots of Golf GTIs near where I live. They're almost universally driven by men in their 40s and 50s. Can you say "mid-life crisis"?
