Wow the ralliart does 0-60mph in 5.8 secs!? I knew it was quicker than the GTI but 1 sec quicker? Won't be dragging either of these without a tune...

Hey it does go alright thats for sure.

    But you'll find that 0-60 is not 0-100km's (more like 62mph = 100km/h).

So thats how they get those really low times for the WRX MY09 of around 5.0 secs flat (some reported as low as 4.8. Its not 0-100.

You see, for instance in the STI 6 speed gearbox, 2nd gear does not stretch to 100km/h, but it does hit 60mph. So that 3rd gear change affects the 0-100 time greatly (maybe half a second).

Where the GTI time is a genuine 0-100 time. And it does it without a 4WD launch, whicih is very impressive for what it is!!

PS congrats on receiving your car!! Must be great driving it.

Interesting thread. I remember, years ago when both Wheels and Motor tested a black WRX from Subaru and achieved 13 point something quarters. They acclaimed the car for it's awesome power and stunning 400m time. When Fast Fours and Rotories borrowed they same car (later) they smelled a rat, and found that the "stock" press Subie was running significantly more boost... FF&R asked Subie Australia what was going on, but Subie was at a loss as to why this particular car was running so much boost. My point is the figures that you see in magazines are not necessarily indicitive of the cars that you and I buy.

I never heard of that but, Yeah thats a fair call and I wouldnt doubt that that particular car had that done.

I can tell you that I had a MY03 WRX that ran a stock 13.83 with me driving at eastern creek raceway. I then pulled a 13.69 with just a unichip installed from croydon racing developments in Sydney. i can only talk from experience.

I think wheels rated it at 13.98 and subaru claimed 14.01 on this model. (1/4 mile).

I also know someone on rexnet, that actually clocked a 13.78 in a stock MY03 also. again real world experience.

Im not sure then what the GTI would actually pull, as it got given a quoted time of 6.5 in one mag. And in the other mag.. I am pretty sure it lists the 6.9 sec time, but could this be the manufacturer's claims as they do this from time to time until they update the times with a real world time, when they finally get round to testing it.

It's not unusual for some manufactuers to 'stack the deck' slightly Holden have been busted providing 'slightly hot' press cars before.

Mate, its no use posting obscure publications and drag strip videos ..... LOL ... it creates the wrong impression.

The figures I have are as PUBLISHED by Motor and Wheels, are what an average person buying a stock standard car can expect to get out of it ....

I agree and know for a fact that in the hands of skilled driver those times can be improved upon ... but then again not easily and necessarily repeatable over and over ...

Spent years myself racing at the strip and my 400+HP 800kg FWD MK1 Golf could do 12.3s at 1200m above sea-level where 600hp Skylines and STIs battled to do 12.5s .... fact and I can sure dig up lots of figures and video to prove it ....

Even my modded E36 M3 could do 13.5s easily and on the 1000km top speed runs easily do 280km/h where near stock STIs battled to break into the 13s .....

That ricer heritage is shining through strong here .... I've raced against the WRXs etc for a long time and they aren't that special .... even a mates heavily modded 22B (1 of only 2 in South Africa at the time) couldn't touch the Golf once rolling .... he was so pissed about it he even tried his 2001 Yamaha R1 and that got beaten 40-220km/h by 2 car lenghts as well .... he ended up selling the 22B and got a 930 Turbo ....

EDIT: and by the way, no figures off the net and/or video comparisons can 100% be relied upon because nobody knows whats been done to the cars in question. Somebody might claim its stock whereas on the other hand its not (seen that before) .... the major publications can however be relied upon to test as received from the manufacturer .... even tyre pressures change 400m times ... LOL

Whats wrong and obscure with the publications and videos I have posted? Why are they any different to what your using? I think I have included enough references to make and stand by my points. I even included a link to MOTOR's Bang For Buck article!

You must be a lawyer or something (albeit a bad one), cause you are now talking about something else, and trying to switch points and go off topic. Not sure what all that 22B/GOLF MK1 modded etc stuff was about. All interesting stuff, but irrelavant cause I thought we were talking about the WRX and its times. And also the Ralliart. I answered you directly. I provided the back up in response to your criticism of my comments.

So I stand by my original comments, and have backed them up both from my own, MOTOR's and many others, personal experience.

And at this point in the discussion, posting video's and talking about times etc.. "creates the wrong impression?" What does that even mean in this discussion?

I would keep going but I just realised your the guy who believes the Tiguan is all sports.

Anyway's, to the OP, looking at 3 important aspects of a car (Exterior, Interior, Performance) the WRX is the better car performance wise, no questions. The GOLF is the better car Interior wise (no questions there either). But its up to you what you think looks best. But between the GOLF and Ralliart only, just consider If having a better car is worth the $10000.

And make sure you test drive them!!

    Cheers.

I took the Ralliart for the rest drive yesterday and like many of the people in this thread had said. They car is nowhere near as refined as the GTI. I have to give the car credit, it offers alot of standard kit for the money, and when I drove it, there was no rattels or creaks from the plasticy interior.

However the moment you open the door, you can just feel its a big step down. The doors feel hollow and close with a clang, instead of the thud like in the GTI.

You sit in the seats and they are no where near as supportive or as well done as the GTI's.

The interior as has been said, is a big step down. However it was not AS BAD as I thought it would be.

The biggest problem I had was with the ride, engine and gearbox. It is a DSG box, but omg... its so rough! The ride felt not as solid as the GTI. Its hard to describe. It has a firm setup, but you feel disconnected from the car.

And the engine sounds pretty average.

So all in all. You do get alot of kit for your money. But Im going to be sticking with my GTI.

Now I just need to wait for the dealer to call me.... it arrived a week ago today...
