Dismantle centre console/radio to run cables

I'd like to run an ipod extension cable from the MDI connector in the glove box to the lower part of the dash (to emerge below the climate control unit) and then connect to an iphone cradle.
Google searches have revealed instructions for removing the dash for Golf Mark IV and V but I can't find any for Golf VI.
Can anyone point me to instructions for removal of the dash and trim below the glovebox for Golf Mark VI? My car has the climatronic unit and RCD510.
    Thanks
    Lex

I've taken the radio and AC controls out before when switching radios. I think you can stick your arm through the hole in the middle and carefully reach round to the glovebox (only going from memory). You should be able to pull the cable through and then just focus on where you want to stick it under the climatronic
I recall someone else planning to re-route their MDI to the cigarette lighter area - but can't remember what model Golf that was and if they finished it.

Here's a pic with the radio out:

The actual MDI connects into the cable block you see there, which is plugged into your RCD510. The other end is in your glovebox. So you should be able to follow that cable if you're running another extension cable.

    Thanks
What are the steps in removing the radio?
Does the trim around the outide of the radio simply unclip? Does this reveal the screws holding the radio in place?

I think that you'd be better to look at one of the many guides on replacing the headunit etc in the correct forum... VW Car Audio and Electronics

    Thanks - that could work.
However, my preference would be to remove the panel under the climate control.
Are there any instructions about that area of the dash?

Never tried - it's probably just a couple of clips or screws.

I removed the AC controls, nothing below them.

    Hi Lex

Just wondering how you went with this, since I bought an MDI retrofit kit and am working out how I'll go about installing it.
