Last year we bought a 2.0 TDI for my daughter build date 09 with about 80k on it, only had it a few weeks when it seemed to loose power. The engine fault light came on and could not be reset via the owners manual.
We took it to a mechanic who was referred to us by another golf owner. He diagnosed, finally, a faulty turbocharger diaphram. The part was not in stock in Aus so we had to wait for it to be imported.
He reset the fault to allow us to drive the car but that only lasted a few days until the light came on again.
The part finally arrived and he installed it, all good except the same thing has just happened again 9 months down the track!
Has anybody else experienced this?
Is it a common fault?
What causes it?
Better still, how can I fix it PERMANENTLY?
The diaphram in the turbo actuator is common enough to split over time, but should last alot longer than 9 months, take it back to your mechanic and if it's the same issue again then he has to warrant it, but beware it could be a different issue again..
P.S: @ 80,000kms I'd be very skeptical that the diaphram even split in the first place, that is very early.
