I'm a little surprised at how well the XR5 is doing against the others and how poorly the 3MPS is doing.
Until recently, Toyota wasn't that much cheaper (if cheaper at all) considering you had to service it twice as often.
Now with Toyota's fixed price servicing, they are cheaper.... but that would mean you'd have to drive a Toyota![]()

Guilty as charged, your honour. I have been on the wrong side of French depreciation (Peugeot 307 Auto)
OTOH I picked up my 206 from a dealer less than 3 years old, 29,000 kms, half the new price. Hasn't needed more than standard maintainence.
So who's buying a Megane RS 250? Someone's grandfather must need a stylish coupe?

Yeah... that's what I mean by the "you had to service it twice as often". But Toyota's fixed price servicing is SOOOO cheap, that many people are actually questioning how they can actually provide the services at that price, without losing money.... the price now is cheaper than the early 90s... So even when you add it up now, it's probably less than half the cost of a VW service.
If you look at the service schedule for a Golf with 7spd dsg or manual box it should be a cheap car to maintain - however like other brands the australian distributor has increased the amount of servicing compared to the norm overseas. There's not much margin in new car sales (other than the odd mug that pays list price) given the overheads of running a showroom, so the real profits are made by the service department in most cases. There's always the option of using an an independent service agent , but I suspect most of us use the VWA network in the belief that the stamp in the book come sell time is worth the extra $150 per year we pay for servicing.
