Running rough or misfiring is easy to detect beccause the engine will vibrate and the exhaust note sounds 'ragged' or uneven. Knocking or pinging is a different matter altogether - the sound can be fairly subtle. I will be using 98 octane until I get the update.

I'm feeling a certain sense of deja vu on this issue - my last car was a Mazda 6MPS and it had to go in for a ECU software update to cure "sudden and unexplained power loss" - their words, not mine. That was also caused by an inadequtely calibrated knock sensor. The mazda 6MPS was also a high boost direct injection motor.

I emailed my dealer yesterday (Barloworld GW), and within an hour had a call from the service department.
It's booked in for Wednesday. Happy about that!

This new ECu calibration may have the potential to make it untunable, the powers are on to it as we speak. ill update as i find out.

So, I'm looking to get the APR reflash done, obviously it would overwrite this if i had it done before, but do you mean that after this "fix" i couldn't have the APR flash done?
    Cheers.

He means that APR (and all the other tuners) will need to update their own ECU flashes to take into account this new software. APR are usually pretty good about updating this, but usually they need someone with the updated ECU to come in, so they can take a copy, send it off overseas to be updated, and then they'll be ready to go.

So in other words, if you want to get the APR tune, go ahead!

    Hi all,

Am I correct to assume from the article that this is only for the 118TSI?

    What's this mystery campaign?!?

    Hi everyone,
After reading a recent post about the recall of the TSI 118 noted in the article below:

    Volkswagen's twin-charged engine trouble

I emailed VW Australia to see if they could shed light on it (having only picked up my MY2010 TSI 118
a week or so back). I was suitably unimpressed (although not surprised) to have a "don't know anything about it" from the salesman at my Sydney dealership.

Anyhow, I got the following reply from the VWA Help Desk:

"Thank you for your email regarding outstanding campaigns on your vehicle.

In regards to outstanding campaigns on your vehicle I am able to confirm that your vehicle is currently requiring campaign number 24S4, please accept my sincere apology as I am unable to confirm if this is the campaign mentioned in the article below."

Firstly, is it just me, or does the right hand of VWA not know what the left hand of VWA is doing?!? Secondly, does anyone know what the 24S4 campaign is?!?

Bloody annoying - brand new car that took close to six months to get here! Grrrr

Sorry Nau, how do you know that the 24S4 is related to this?
