Sorry to hear it "MurphyTheElf" - hopefully it will be fixed soon... my GTI's water pump was replaced a few weeks ago...

They simply didn't tighten up a hose clip properly. They took a new one off a brand new GTI and put it on mine. Along with a $50 fuel card for my trouble. They also paid for the taxi to get back to their dealership when the car broke down and also gave me a loan car without asking. So their customer service is generally pretty good - to make up for slap-dash techs.

    Coolant symbol - help please!

Hey guys, the coolant symbol just came up, can someone suggest what to buy from a servo? Or what can I put in to tie me over?

Is there a Supercheap/Repco/Autobarn, etc nearby? Just ask one of the guys there or see if they have a listing of something similar to G12++

Just top it up with demineralised/distilled water unless it's heaps.

The correct coolant is VW G12+++ & I wouldn't mix it with anything else.

It's in your owners manual (with has a great index in it), but the coolant is type off the top of my head is VW Spec G12+
I would assume that the stores Ryan_R mentioned would be able to help you with something suitable.

I'm pretty sure the owners manual may even mention something about mineral or filtered water or something being a temporary measure if you're really desperate... but again, check the manual to confirm.

Or visit a VW Parts place tomorrow if work commitments allow for that. I would assume (but check your manual) that a coolant warning light would be similar to a petrol warning light - you'd have a decent amount of km's up your sleeve to get it sorted. You could at least phone VW to see what type they recommend.

Thanks for the info guys, I went past a MASSIVE BP and the friggin store didn't even have any coolant! Chocolate bars were a plenty but nothing useful for the car.

I ended up finding a servo with distiller water which was ok to use for now.

And yes it is 12G plus plus.
