Don't stress Kaanage, we have what we were looking for here.

I get the sense that as a day to day proposition, which is what this will be, it is an overall nicer place to be than a MkV with a more solid and grounded feel and ride with better NVH suppression and a much improved interior, which is something I obviously could assess.

I too had a subie in the form of a Liberty 3.0R spec B, and this was actually where it came from, because as great as the AWD traction was, the car was as boring as a silent fart to get around in. I bought it new and got rid of it 1.5 years later.

So AWD is not the be all and end all of a car for me. However, that's not to say they can't be fun, my other thing is an old Nissan GTR and although not a traditional AWD, it still provides that sort of ridiculous traction albeit with a little more tail wagging attitude.

Been reading some more reviews also, thinking I should stick with the order now. Thanks again.

Mark 7 Golf R or its Cousin?

Audi is due to unveil the next gen (read MK7 Golf) Audi A3 3 door in March 2012. The 5 door Sportback and Audi S3 will be unveiled later in October this year - only 9 mths away. Australia may be no longer than 6 months later for release of the same Audi vehicles, which makes it early 2013. Waiting up to 9 mths for a Golf R order will put you close to the relase of an Audi S3 model if your budget stretches that far. Best to wait for the MK7 Golf R imo. See link for pics of interior for next gen (MK7) Audi A3 interior. Pics also show the external parts of the Audi A3 on the dashboard display:

I changed over from a MKV GTI to MK6 GTI and am very happy. My neighbour ordered a Golf R and was going to change from an R32 to the Golf R, but cancelled due to delays, not enough bling and only improvements over the R32 being nicer interior, meatier top end thrust and Dynamic Chassis Control. He's going to wait until the Mark 7 GTI and R arrives to reconsider.

    Cheers.

i'm sorry, but that makes "limited" sense.
if cancelling now due to a proposed 9 month wait, and then re-ordering once the Mk7 arrives, won't there be a similar wait time then? and by that time, aren't you better off waiting for the MY14 or 14.5 , or 15 and so on and so on. I'm not sure about everyone else, but I live in the hear and now... and please, I am sure you understand there is no offense intended there.

But I do agree.. you do have options.
I also priced up an S3. also has ridiculous wait times.. but you can get a nice one which does not have sat nav, is the outgoing model, and my11 plated, for $88,861 OTR. over the phone I chatted him down to $76.200. and it was not similarly specced to the R (flat bottom steering wheel $700, sat nav $5K).
I later haggled down a Limited edition S3 (5door) to $78K. that's a lmost $20K more than my higher specced R is costing me, but I would get free servicing for 3 years and a nicer sunroof.
Again, both these models are outgoing, 2011 plated vehicles currently in stock.

I think just hold a sec. The Roc is now released and tehre will be others in teh same boat, that may be switching their orders. I would suggest you get friendly and chatty with your dealer about finding out what other cars are on their way already scheduled for production that are unallocated or dealer only allocated, and do a swap. You may have to compromise on options or colour, but you can still negotiate....

just means you will get it sooner.

Thanks guys, I did look into the Audi although this was the current sportback. Don't like the aesthetics at all, and even the interior I was not that keen on. And I'd feel like I was paying for a brand, which we all know.............. don't want to start anything here.

Agree with entice, can't forever be waiting for the next model, unless what you see from a preview is an enormous improvement over the current such that you just must have, then I get it. Really appreciate the ideas though mate.

The reason it doesn't sound so good was that I thought I'd move the GTI prior to getting too close to 100K so it didn't hit that psychological mark, but now the wait is so long, I'll probably get there, and have to go through the major service, and possibly have to look at brakes. So I'll do all this good stuff, then sell it.

For those of you wondering, i ordered at the end of Oct 2011, they told me 6 months, they've now told me somewhere in may, but can't really tell me anything else.

So the idea of looking into some cancelled orders is quite a good one. Will do that.

And Candy, everytime I see your Avatar, I just really want one again. Love the photo!!!

Probably cos of the similarity to my track thing......

An extended wait for a new gen Audi S3 makes sense if the Audi S3 (and MK7 Golf R) is much improved over the current model - lighter with greater agility, more frugal, new gen reworked & highly strung EA888 motor (possibly with twin turbo according to some reports), new tech and possibly additional std equipment for roughly the same price due to the cheaper build cost of the MQB platform & enhanced safety features that come with every newly improved model. Probably improved resale value over a current Audi S3 model which will be old news in 12 months. Patience is a virtue.

agreed, but in that 12 months of "patience" and decreased resale, you've also had 12 months use...
    so it's a moot point

there is a reason why you can get a good discount on the "current model". I'm not sure that the same level of discount will apply to an up and coming model..
    same goes for the R.

At first, dealers wouldn't budge on price..Now, it's a different story.

I'm sure that no matter what the end decision is, the OP will find a variety of reasons to justify his/her decision.

Neither is right or wrong in my eyes, but it's being comfortable with the decision that matters.

Personally, regret is something that I chose to avoid.. hence my sig.... (courtesy of Carmella Soprano)

The endless wait (the WJ method)

Just buy one. By the time the next one comes around you will have enjoyed the current model and be ready for the next (better) model
