Im going in for a 60k service for my gti and going to change spark plugs. Questions is should the coil packs be changed as well? When is it necessary to change it anyway?

Hi Parky
Like most electrical components, coil packs do not wear out in a predictable way. Some die on the first day of use - others last the lifetime of the car. If you are lucky enough to have the latter, then replacing at 60k with one that will die tomorrow would be disappointing.
So they are a replace on failure component.

Yeah, I don't think it is either. Which is my point... they're not a "scheduled service replacement part".
