Hi Guys,
My previous rides have been a Clio Sport 172, and then an unruly Mazda 3 MPS and now a 130i and new Mk6 GTI DSG.
The GTI is so far awesome, but i'm still craving more power.
I would like to ask how drivable a Mk6 GTI chipped is? From most tuners i've seen, it'll put out almost the same power and torque figures as my old MPS which had a front LSD and torque limiting in the first 3 gears. The MK6 has none of these, which kinda worries me if i'm considering going down the chipped route.
Does the MK6 GTI deal with the added power in a more linear fashion?
The MPS used to deliver what felt like a wall of torque at about 2000rpm and then cut off abruptly at around 5000rpm. The cutting in and out was very noticeable and between these rev ranges was when all the torque steer and tram lining occurred. Sorta like trying to ride a mad bull!!!
So far i'm in love with the GTI and feel it puts all its power down adequately. So I wouldn't want to chip it and turn it into an MPS like beast.
What do you chipped guys think?

I came from a 200+ fwkw and 500nm 3MPS into my Mk6 GTI and put APR Stage 1 and intake on 2 weeks in.
If you've experienced the forearm workout and right foot no steer lane changes that the MPS gives you, then the GTI with tune will feel like it has no torque steer at all.
I'd put it down to the MPS having a true LSD and the GTI having the XDL setup (wheel braking rather than a LSD).
Can't speak for what happens with a real LSD fitted on the GTI though, could be MPS-ish...

I have an APR stage 1 and love the torque which just keeps building right up to peak ,makes the country driving so lazy with relaxed overtaking , the tricky diff does its job pretty well , it does get a bit twitchy in the lower gears , powering out of corners is generally well controlled , definately much better than my preFL octavia RS which was a real handfull with stage 1, and could be a problem with an inexperienced driver on board .
Around town its just like any other GTI very tame and also quiet economical , i tend to use 5th gear more than in past , no real change in fuel use , only takes 98ron , but i recently ran it on 95 on a country trip with no noticeable difference .
APR will have a 15% off sale coming up in may/june as they did in 2011, also in december .

Oh, forgot to add. The reason I got the tune done to the GTI so quickly was I missed the grunt of the MPS and felt the little bit of extra power was needed.
You can fry the tyres if you want, but having the extra torque available all the time for daily driving turns the GTI from great to brilliant.
It doesn't overwhelm the chassis of the GTI like it does with the MPS, but still runs out of puff at the top end, although not as dramatically as the 5800rpm brick wall in the Mazda on stock tune.

I dont find any torque steer at all really with stage 1. Wheel spin yes.....crazy wheel spin, but no torque steer.

I remember reading a motor magazine article saying that a stage 3 golf did not torque steer as bad as an MPS3. I have never driven the 3 (have driven the 6), but didnt find excessive torque steer on a stage 2 mkv. I dont think you will find it a problem, and you should go for it.
If you're sticking with just a tune and not a turbo upgrade then it will be nothing like the MPS, the smaller K03 turbo in the GTI delivers power much earlier and smoother, which means you're not confronted with a huge amount of torque in 1 hit like is noticeable in cars with larger turbo's. I barely noticed any difference in torque steer or wheel spin when tuning my GTI but i did opt for the less aggressive Bluefin tune (177kw/ 335nm).
MKV GTI
rumour is false.... been around for ages....
i run a giac stage 2+ tune and no torque steer just alot of torque
"Forced induction" sounds like some sort of sexual assault.
i drive a Golf 7R tuned by APR + exoticars
