Yes, VW always fixed it under warranty but would never acknowledge the danger it used to put them in being stranded in the middle of an intersection with a no-go car. Agree 45K miught not be much but the 3 years I had the Pirelli with 90K including track work, daily commutes on the M1 and cruises gave the DSG a thorough working over. Even tuned the DSG for the last 15K of that time to give it more stress and hard work. I don't think they got the 7-speed right but the 6-speed wet DSG worked a treat for me in all conditions.

I guess it's like anything, you get a lemon amongst lots of success stories but unfortunately you don't have people starting forum threads title "my dsg is awesome and never fails"...

Have to agree , yet to hear anyone with an R with the 6 speed complain of any issues, but I think I will start a thread called "my dsg is awesome and never fails"... now..

Agree. To me this thread is like someone finding a fault with Apple earphones, so they claim all earphones are faulty and that's why they now use full-sized headphones. Very short-sighted

I test drove a Volvo C30 T5 once. The steering rack was so slow it nearly redefined the word "understeer"

You know that my mech unit got replaced due to the infamous false neutral, 3 months after purchase.

From memory, quite a few new R's had false neutrals but most just ignored the issue.

Infrequent but alarming when it happens.

Other than that, typical DSG misbehaviour (same as my GTI used to) but nothing that concerns me.

I'd still buy another DSR equipped vehicle, even with those faults.

As for the Volvo, no, thanks, rightly or wrongly, it still drives like a Volvo and not what I like in a car

    No balls ?

Seriously, if that is why you got a manual, you should not have bought a Golf.

If I remember correctly you had it changed on the concern that it was presenting false neutrals rather than it was.. I had a few quibbles when I first got mine but I blame my learning to drive a DSG rather than the unit itself..

Anyway how the hell are you CM.. back in the big smoke or still hiding out with the hippies

No mate, I got the mech in the GTI replaced bfore we sold it, as you say, not because it had false neutral problems as such but knew it would help resale (mind you, it did misbehave plenty of times but I put up with it as I loved the DSG and what it offers)

The R however, did indeed have multiple false neutrals. One was almost the cause of me getting t-boned by a truck. Dealer didn't hesitate getting it replaced.

Doing good up here. The R rarely leaves the carpark to be honest. Loving the lifestyle, the weather and the people. Much more relaxed lifestyle and lower COL (better roads too with less traffic).

Although not strictly DSG related, what I have found is what got me more offside was the general attitude of the dealers with my warranty issues, the issues were self-evident (ac not working, turbo leaking oil, water pump leaking and inlet manifold ) but every warranty issue was a fight and the problem was never a problem when first reported.
