I only had one complaint since getting my Tiguan - there was a gap in the A pillar on the passenger side where it met the roof lining. They acknowledged the problem - diagnosed it as a broken clip which warranted replacement of the whole cover. They didn't have parts in store and ordered one from Sydney. Made an appointment 2 weeks later to get it replaced.
Maybe I should change my comment from 'dealers' in general to a particular Sydney dealer located near an airport and who also has a dealership in the inner-western suburbs. and while if VW is trying to keep it's goodwill with its customers, it may want to suggest to its dealers that being dismissive of its customers issues is not the way to go about it.
FWIW, some Old Guy info......I have just brought up 80,000 km on my Mk 6 GTD DSG and it is going great guns. While I don't try to kill the motor or the DSG on a regular basis I do give both a workout most days of the week. When I first started "playing" with paddles and things I thought I had come across a "box of neutrals" situation a couple of times but now realise it was just Dumb Driver with a New Toy Syndrome.
My VW dealer ( Highway at Springwood ) has treated me very well since day 1, even after I handed over the bag of loot for the car, which is in marked contrast to my previous new car Holden dealer in 1973, long time ago I know, probably not relevant anymore to some people. One upside to being treated like rubbish by my Holden dealer is that it drove me and my wallet into the clutches of John Leffler ( some will remember him ) and his crew who made my Torana XU-1 absolutely fly! In those days you could ring up Holden at Pagewood in Sydney and say "I wanna make it go quicker" and they would tell you how to go about it over the phone. I kept that car for 23 years even though it started as a lemon.
On auto transmissions and reliability I can speak from 16 years as a cabbie in BrisVegas ( driver only ) and the experience that a couple of private owners had with Falcon autos. In the mid 1990's one owner budgeted 1cent for every one kilometre the car travelled towards the rebuild and another worked on time and he estimated that about once per year he needed a rebuild, they were both pretty right, about 160,000km and they were sick and sore autos. These were well maintained cars and serviced to manufacturers specifications religiously.
Hope the info helps.
Totally agree.
KM does matter but time is just as much of a test.
The type of usage is significant as well. I will now refuse to buy a car driven only by a person (lets stereotype for accuracy, say by an elderly lady or middle aged mum) to go to the shops and fetch coffee or driven only on weekends, turns out it has been a constant source of problems now I'm actually driving it.
Should have bought one from someone who actually drove the damn thing. Mini-rant over haha
