Yes I dragged mine but it came out of the factory with launch control
so why would dragging it hurt the dsg if the box can't Handel it don't put on launch control
My Tdi has done 160000
But the dsg started to play up after 15000 they kept saying there was nothing wrong every service until it ran out of warranty

Yes it was recorded and it was fixed at vws cost
Yes other manufacturers are bringing out dsg gear boxes eg nissan gtr
They don't have any problems
I'm just saying vws dsg is unreliable in my experience
Nissan have problems with the gtr transmission, even for bog stock cars. That's no secret.
For the record I had a mk5 GTI for almost 6 years, 99000km, no real issues.

had zero issue with the dag on my mk6 gti for the 3 years owned it.
not sure could go back to a slush box with torque converter....as am not sure could ever go back to a manual box either.
the golf gti had me as a convert to dag and dual clutch boxes. love the 7 speed dct on the merc.
ps volvo prob had access to the dual clutch from the ford focus. not sure why they didn't go for it rather than the slush box as the fords is pretty good in my opinion![]()
Once had a Red mk6 GTI + DSG + leather + sunroof + mdi + towbar
now have a gorgeous Red Merc A250 AMG Sport
Did the car leave you stranded on the road? If not, then I wouldn't call the car that needed the gearbox repair at 160,000km unreliable.
I'm sorry, you're wrong, many car manufacturers have problems with their transmissions... and not just with the transmissions. I really wish you that the Volvo will be as reliable as the VW was for you.

Don't get me wrong I loved the dsg as well it was fantastic in the golf R
I even think it is better than the merc 7 speed the dsg changed a lot better
I was just worried about the reliability
I hope it is a good change to the volvo
Will keep you all posted
I was only making the point that 45K is not long term use and certainly not enough distance to judge long term reliability. Never owned a dsg myself but the mechatronics & clutch pack replacements that my brother's 2009 Jetta needed in its 130K life and the number of times it stranded him or his wife because the dsg left them sitting in the middle of the road doing nothing did not boost my confidence in them. Yes, VW always fixed it under warranty but would never acknowledge the danger it used to put them in being stranded in the middle of an intersection with a no-go car. He now drives a manual Camry.........

Long-term inherently refers to time, not distance, and whilst you might not consider 45,000km (or 90,000, or 180,000km across 3 cars) to constitute long-term as a measurement of distance, I sure do. I've had my GTI for 3 1/2 years and it's just ticked over 25,000; I expect it'll be close to 40,000 by the time I sell it @ 5 years. And that period of reliable ownership (touchwood) definitely constitutes 'long term' to me (and, I suspect, many other members besides who are equally interested in reliability).
