Car pre-registered, not new? What to do?

I called VW Australia to inquire about my welcome pack and I was told my car was registered to the dealer in April 2011, but it had no rego sticker or plates and i was told it was brand new! I even asked!

when i picked it up it’s rego sticker was 12 months from the date i picked it up,25th of July wtf? So he is going to call them to get to the bottom of it, he said they have to declare if the car was registered/used....He told me he’d call back and would get the person that sold me the car to call me too, what should i do or say? it seems very deceptive.

How many km's were on the clock when you picked it up?

Also was yours a custom order or did you pick it up from the dealer in stock?

If it was dealer stock i believe they are registered as soon as they are delivered.
Mine was special order and as such was only registered to me the day before i picked it up.

1100 is a bit much for me to call new but i don't know what the limit is for km or age.

    no 110 km.

I’m not sure that is correct, i have purchased cars that were dealer stock before and they were never preregistered

Yeah a bit suss that it had been registered and was being sold as new. Especially since it appears the dealer has cancelled the rego and re-registered it when purchased so it had 12 months rego.... there's no other way of changing the rego date in Vic as far as I know.

I would assume a car with over 100 km's on it would be sold as a demonstrator?

Did you make it explicitly clear to the dealer that you wanted a new car? Were you under the impression that it was a new car?

Possibly some misleading or deceptive conduct here, but difficult to know without all of the details.

    Ok background,
I’m not the kind of person who is going to wait 6 months or whatever for a car to be ordered and delivered.
I saw the car and it was a good price, i was a little concerned about it having 100+ kms on it, but i mean it wasn’t a deal breaker.. I test drove it and mentioned the kms on the car and was told it is still considered brand new...

I later again said, hmmm I’m not sure, are you sure it’s brand new, “yes” was the reply, a car is considered brand new up to 300 something km..i was like okay.... now i didn’t specifically ask if it had been registered, why would i, it was brand new so clearly the car is unregistered....There was no rego sticker on the car and they used dealer plates for the test drive.. I got my finance from there and it’s listed as “brand new”

When i picked it up i checked the rego sticker it was dated and paid on the 25th of july, till the 25th of july 2012.. new rego.

Ahh okay, 110 is fine for a new care from what i have heard.

I believe they rego the cars when they are floor stock so that they can be taken on test drives.
Not sure if this is the same as a full road use rego though so that could be why it had a new rego when you picked it up.

Maybe send a pm to one of the dealer staff who frequent the forum here and see if they can prvide any input?
