Thanks for the advice, I'll stay clear of the car bra and look at a protective film. Cheers

Highly recommend the invisible car bras/ozicozi! Best thing I have done to the car. You can see where stones have scooted across the bonnet. Just add it to your insurance policy so you can get it replaced it need be.

The DIY kits are tempting but I'm not confident that I'd be able to do the job to the quality level I'd desire. I'd rather pay someone to do it right....
I wouldn't attempt something like this unless you have a steady hand and a good eye for precision along with a good clean shed with lots of light. Some of mine had to be redone as it bubbled a couple of times but more so the more intricate bits not the man parts.

I had a car bra for my WRX, i bought it from here:

CAR-BRA Australia - Pioneers of the original Car Bra

It was very good quality, it fitted well and was felt lined so as not to scratch the paint work, the company was very helpful over the phone and delivery was really quick to your door.
Have gone the Ventureshield route on the new car so as to keep the car protected at all times, the carbra i only used a couple of times for long trips but seemed to work very well.
    MY11 Golf R - Rising Blue - 5DR - DSG - 19" Black OZ Ultralegerra - Leather - Sunroof - MDI - Euro Plates - Milltek Exhaust - Bluefin - SOLD
    MY11 Tiguan 147 TSI - DSG - Pepper Grey - Black Leather - RVC - MDI - BT

ah cool. nice to hear from someone who's dealt with them. how much are they charging roughly inc delivery? hopefully theyve got one for a mk6/R if i investigate that path! are they straight forward to put on? (they look like a relatively easy 2 man job?). stupid fricken grasshoppers!

once ive sorted that out, i can attend to my customary rattle in the passenger side dash/air vent.....

Mine cost me $470 from memory so they're not cheap, although mine was blue to match the colour of the car, black is a fair bit cheaper i think.

Pretty easy to put on, its just a 1 man job, the first time is the hardest but it will stretch a bit once it's been on for a while and the 2nd time you will know what you are doing.

Give them a call or send them an email (that's what i did initially) and see if they have one available for the mk6.

ahh right. i rang carbra in melbourne today. apart being flat out from the victorian locust plagues, the fella said he hasnt yet got one made for the R... and needs to borrow an R from vw to take the mould - so he said that wont be til mid-late jan.

i spoke to vw service for some advice and they couldnt advise anything as nothing is made by vw for this problem, and if any aftermarket apparatus is placed to restrict airflow to any degree, they wont have a bar of it! i said that im sure vw doesnt advise filling your grille, intake and a/c with locusts either, which he agreed.... so i now have some flyscreen placed with a couple of cable ties....
