Camshaft housing oil leak

Hi guys just had my MK6 golf gti serviced by a VW dealership and they found a small oil leak coming from the camshaft housing.
They have quoted me just over 3k to have it repaired.
They have said it's very labour intensive and they will need the car for 2 days.
They say it requires a lot of parts be replaced as most are one off use throw away items.
Quote also included a new timing chain tensioner and a few other parts including some case that gets warped? and then requires a new case to be fitted.
Has anyone had this done? Just concerned I am being overcharged.

Timing chain tensioner can be pricey, they probably need to replace it with a newer revision as the older ones are terrible, id expect about half that quote is just for that.

Could be worth while finding a VW specialist over the dealership too. On the Gold Coast the quotes i got were WAY higher through VW whereas VA Garage specialists were significantly cheaper and knew all common problems by heart. So took any guess work out and lowers labour costs.

Oh, you’re not getting overcharged. You are only paying for the original mistakes in design and for the VW not doing a recall for badly designed engine timing components incl. the timing chain tensioner, which has been revised 4 times and always kept quiet despite there were catastrophic engine failures on many 2.0 TSI engines.

Hopefully the 4th revision is final, but only time will tell otherwise there wouldn’t be the revision no 1, 2, and 3.

More like 99% is for the tensioner, timing cover and probably everything that the timing chain touches.
To fix the leak is the remaining 1% and that’s still very generous.

Haha probably true, I think i paid around the 1200 mark and 1800 all up with minor service.

Can anyone recommend a reputable workshop around Brisbane?
I'm near Ipswich but happy to travel to get the job done correctly at the right price.
