    Camera?

    Hi Guys,

I just wanted to get your views on the Camera? Ive already ordered the car and because its essentially a small car i didnt bother with rear sensors or camera. I had the Mk4 and never really had issues parking.

    Should I add it??

    Cheers!

The Golf has worse rearwards visibility than many 4wds.

Is it worth it? Depends if you want to avoid running over a child, dog or a bollard

I have a slight slope to back out of, camera is a must to avoid pets, kids, obstacles etc. Team it up with sensors as well and you;ll almost never hit anything again.

I only glance at the camera when reversing - I prefer the mirrors and head checks. The camera is a fisheye so it distorts your rear vision and isn't particularly accurate. But it is useful to identify the presence of objects.

When it truly comes into its own is when negotiating parking distance. Sensors are effective on their own, but the camera provides a good visual respresentation of what is behind you.

It doesn't matter what others think, what matters is what YOU think.

Do you want a reverse camera or PDC? It's easier and cheaper to fit it at the factory than afterwards.

You are right.. initially I was going to get the sensors but then I thought there really wasnt a point as i never had a problem with parking the MK4..

I could probably do without the camera, but I like having it. As for the parking sensors.... I just spent money on a shiny new car and anything that helps me negotiate obstacles successfully is good in my book. Sure I _could_ do without them, but it would be one of the first options to put on a car I really cared about.

Even though it's a medium sized car, you are only really guessing where the boundaries of the car are. You might have a pretty good idea, but you can't physically see the bumpers, so it's just a guess. So, if you want a decision made for you....

    Camera - optional
Sensors - do it (front and rear)

As with anything, they are not foolproof and you still need to take care while driving - especially in carparks.

Thanks for your advice! I am going to add the sensors tomorrow!
