Hi Rob, I'm in the same position did you end up sorting it out?
Hi
I am currently going down the path of trying to figure out whether I actually have a failed A/C compressor or just require a new RCV (refrigerant control valve) which seems to be a common fault. The local VW dealer and A/C mechanic have both told me I need a new compressor but after reading the forums it seems that this is often just a misdiagnosed conclusion. I want to try and replace the RCV before going down the $1300 path of compressor replacement. It appears that these valves are only available overseas. Has anyone sourced any in Australia? If so where? If from overseas where from America or just China knockoffs? Any advise appreciated
Cheers
Rob

Hi Spannerf1, I will hijack robclappo thread here, as I don't think he checks the forum anymore, could be wrong
The PXE16 compressors commonly fail, the most common failure is the control valve, which sets the power level of the compressor. the correct way to test for this is using a refrigerant gage https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMrU4XimsoI
I had my system recovered at the local AC shop (Free), replaced the value myself RKX AC Compressor Control Solenoid Valve For SANDEN PXE16 PXE14 – RKXtech was $70 at the time, then had the AC shop recharge the system for $100.
This fixed my problem, but it's good to check (your local AC shop should be able to do the above check), before replacing the valve.
