the way I read this is that this is exactly what noowve has done. He has been to burwin and south yarra. South Yarra have given him a similar price to burwin's, he prefers dealing with burwin so he wants to go back there... Even if South Yarra could match the deal, by the sounds of it he is happier at Burwin.
I mean, you wouldn't like people coming into your shop and asking you to match or beat the price of a competitor down the road, if not then I'm going there everytime they come in.... I'd prefer not to have that customer...

Noowve, IMO, you if you like the way you're being dealt with at Burwin and you're happy with the price, then sign away...

We all get that you have to compare different dealers, because otherwise you have no reference as to whether you're getting ripped off or not. What I objected to was this:

That's not comparing, that's negotiating dirty. If you were working for a company and tendering for business or merchandise, this would even be illegal and could wind yourself up in jail for! hehe

    Checking for Delivery

    Hi all

I am new here so I hope I am posting my query in the right section. I just recently bought a 2009 golf 103 TDI comfortline DSG with sports pack. Delivery is expected to take place this coming Thursday. I have tracked the car via its VIN and it indicated that the car was delivered from Port Kembla in March 2009.

As I found the whole experience of dealing with car sales people quite daunting, I would be grateful if more experienced members could clarify some of the issues that I am concerned prior to taking delivery:

    1. Given the car has been in the car yard/warehouse since March 2009 is there a higher risk of dammage to the body (scratch, etc) to be expected? What are the hidden signs I should be looking out for?

    2. What sort of "pre" mileage on the odometer is acceptable?

    3. What acceptable brand of tyres should the car come with?

    4. The dealer will not give me a cheque for my trade-in on the delivery date. How do I make sure that the refund will be made as they say within 1 week?

Any general tips/help that you may have is most appreciated.

    Thanks for all your help.

If you are trading in your old car, they wont give you a cheque for it... Wont they just take off what they are giving you from the total price of your new car?

    1. No there should'nt be anything to worry about here. You will find that this car has been sitting in a holding yard and after the pre-delivery detail it will be fine.

    2. There should be no "pre-mileage" just delivery kms, 20km or under should be what you are looking at. Any more like 100km plus then you need to question what the vehicle was used for.

    3. If you are going for the sports pack than a good quality "known" brand. Expect European not Japanese or Korean made.

    4. I think you have lost us all with you trade in cheque, but I think you are leasing your new car and the trade in is going back to your account? Anyway they should pay you the time they take ownership of you old car. You have to pay them on the spot before you drive off and that is the same for them.
Don’t except payment within a week demand full payment at the time you give them your old car.

20k's or under? I would have thought well under that even - under 10 perhaps....
Congratulations on your purchase, and have fun.... what colour?

    1. This is way to long for a car to be sitting around especially in a product like Volkswagen that is in high demand. If you can try and change colour options to get something closer to Dec build as you can and 2010 complinanced so it can be registered as a 2010 car. It also suggests that the build of this car might have been late 2008, you really don't want a car that is already 2 years old before you start. This is obviously a lesson to all that the cheapest is not always the best.

    2. This varies wildly as some cars are take of production line for quality control to be driven, driven at wharfs/holding yards and then dealers do between 5-10km during pre-delivery so in reality it should be between 20-50km, as stated anything over this you need to question.

    3. VW use 6 different tyre manufacturers from memory they are Bridgestone, Continental, Dunlop, Pirelli, Michelin and Good year. The sports pack (if you are referring to the factory option) is done at the factory so the dealer is not in control of what tyre's are put on. If they are telling you they are putting a sports pack on locally then this is starting to sound more dodgy and again a lesson that cheapest is not always the best.

    4. You have to pay on delivery of your new car and they have to pay on delivery of yours. If you present a vehicle in the condition they valued ti then there is no reason why they can't have a cheque drawn and ready to hand over on delivery. Without it you open yourself up to them saying they wil pay you less because they inspected after you left and the condition has changed and its worth less. They sound dodgy enough as it is, be smart and dot your i's cross you t's. You have more legal rights than they do and you should exercise them.

    Good luck

Delivery kilometers vary greatly. Most have around 10-15klms on them when they arrive at the dealership. Factor in a trip to the petrol station, maybe a few trips to various other places for accessories (such as fitting and painting of spoilers, tint, etc). Some stock cars (ones that the dealer has purchased to put on the lot), will often be test-driven by potential customers.

Lacoste, if your car is an early '09 build, the chances are it is has been a stock car, and that it may have a few extra klms on it. However, no more than 100.

As for compliance dates, etc. it's such a pointless, hair-splitting issue. We had one customer pull out of a deal only hours before taking delivery of her car, becuase it was December '09 complied, late October '09 build. Even though it was a 2010 model, and nothing has physically changed on that particular model VW in the last 6 months or so, she still complained. Solution? Order an early Novemebr '09 build, with early January compliance.

It seemed strange to me that this car was a March 09 build, but still around and being sold as new.....
I'm with 'skoda convert'.... sounds a little dodgy.

Sounds a bit strange, are you getting a good discount due to its age??
If you go through with the purchase check to see if it has a maintenance card for the battery.
Hate to think its been sitting around that long and somebody starting it every few days and
runs it at idle to keep the battery charged.
