And change your sig before someone else have a go at you. It's GTI, not GTi.2010 GTi 5 Dr., DSG, Carbon Steel Grey, 18# Detroit Alloy, Elec., Sunroof, MDI, Bi-Xenon, Park Assist
While they may put a April 30 delivery date, that does not mean you will necessarily get it then (or even in May). If they do not fulfill their end of the contract, you have the right to rescind. But where does that leave you? Most ppl probably won't cancel if they have already been waiting for a few months, and "what's a couple of months more"? The dealers know this... and take their chances you won't walk. If you do, there's plenty who will take your place.
Honestly, that's poor form. You were in the middle of negotiating with one dealer and then decide to jump to another dealer. And you told them you were going to "come back" after lunch "for a deal". When I am for consumers getting the best deal, screwing dealers around isn't the way. Don't forget these guys sell cars for a living - they're not giving them away for peanuts. A little respect goes a long way on both sides of the negotiating table.Originally Posted by wdong

I agree with you somewhat, but they didnt have to do the deal. If his behaviour was as he has said, they had the option to ask him to leave. I am in sales and if the deal had played out like this and i was getting screwed i would have said, final offer on the table, take it or leave it.
Again i agree, it's not how i do business (buying) but the dealer is as at fault as he is by agreeing to the terms, no-one had a gun to his head.
I agree with the other posters that the relationship with the dealer may not be as strong going forward, but the dealers with servicing facilites are going to want his business going forward regardless.
It works for Confucius.
Sounds like a good deal though, don't think I would have gone as far to screw them out of every last cent and agree the service department would still like the business.
I'm not in sales but not many people would like to be spoken to in such a manner and would have told you to shove it.
Also there is very little to no chance of getting the car in April if you're only ordering now (esp with all those options) but hard to know really.

this thread is great... just for the entertainment value alone!
Personally, i wouldn't do business with someone with your attitude, but luckily i'm not in sales, and as long as you are happy, then well done.
And in your defence, you were being screwed around by the Glen Waverley dealer on the delivery, probably because they knew you needed it by a certain date and were squeezing you for more on that basis.
As i understand it, GTI Manufacturing doesn't start until Week 6 of 2010 (2nd week of Feb), and although i don't know when they stopped making them, this means that orders made in November, December and January will all be allocated builds as soon as they start up again.
So for those saying that November orders will be filled first in April and a Jan order won't be here 'till August, it's more likely that all back orders will be manufactured and shipped together (or at least very close together), and April or early May will still be the delivery dates for Factory orders made up till about the first week of Feb.
Would be interesting to see the production rate for the VW Golf line in Germany??
When I visited the MINI factory in Oxford there was no order the the production, that is, a Cooper S might be followed by a Cooper Cabrio, then followed by a JCW Cooper S and so on.
I have been to Autostadt, but unfortunately didn't get time to do a factory tour, however I'd be surprised if Wolfsburg didn't follow a similar production model to Plant Oxford. That is, I doubt GTI production would have "stopped".
Maybe someone who's done a Wolfsburg tour can confirm.
Australia get's allocated/negotiates certain production slots. Each slot can build so many cars and sometimes there can be restrictions in the slots (for example there may be a supply issue with RNS 510's as occurred to me which pushed my car back).
When the orders go in and the slot is full or because of a restriction the order goes into the next slot.
The cars for Australia would all come out around the same time and be taken to port in one batch and parked in the one area for loading onto the ship (again I assume into the same area to make loading/unloading easy).
It's probable that Australia has no slots over the Christmas period.
The only batching up they do I think is for the paint booths, they have four I think for the Golf line and each booth will paint all one colour and when another colour is to be done (there are 8 I think for Australia) the booths robot cleans and changes over to the other colour itself which takes around 15 minutes.
Wolfsburg shuts down for 16 days over Christmas each year, they shut down for 21 in 2008 because of declining sales.

Car salesman are not that smart, like real estate agents they lie over things to get your business thru the door. At the end of the day, YOU need to trick him over and let him agree to selling you the car you want at the price you are happy to part with.
Once a deal is signed, im sure that dealership is making some money from it.
If not then, it wont be in business long.........
