Why are we specifying Asians here?

Everyone's a tight ass at times - there's just a time and place IMO.

    I'm not Asian btw.

Life is way too short to have every transaction you make with people as stressful as this. At the end of the transaction you want to be able to shake hands with each other and have a genuine grin on your face with neither party secretly thinking "what an a***hole".

I have no interest in wanting to deal with people in business or socially who want to "squeeze every cent...period".

Look there's no question here about the fact that you have to push dealers at times - its more so about to what extent.

They are dodgy pricks really - and will lie to get a good deal for themselves.

I generally determine if they're someone I want to deal with anyway quite early on. Nothing worse than a cocky know it all.

[QUOTE=ozvino;444703]Agreed, you have to look at the big picture; I could have driven around Melbourne playing dealers off against each other and screwed another $1000 out of the deal - for me time is money, so I wsnt interested, not to mention after sales support. Ive had a couple of things come up with a car we bought last year and the dealership did it for free (accessories I wanted fitted post delivery), not to mention accessories that were sold to me at trade price

The other issue with screwing the dealer down so hard is that with a popular car like the GTI the car order may end up getting allocated to someone who paid more (and represents more margin for the dealer) and your order can slip down the priority list....... Until you get the VIN (usually a week or two before production from memory) you really dont have any certainty as to where you sit in the production schedule

I can tell you that dealers dont like names and prices posted on forums for obvious reasons, so Im surprised the guy said to post his name and sales prices here....

So if your happy experiencing an extra long delivery, paying top dollar for post sales parts and accessories, not having loan vehicles around when you need them, along with being relegated down the list when it comes to service......yeah, you got the best price

Great point above - I love getting good deals too, but coming on a forum - and bragging about how a dealer lost money, and posting he's details is not very impressive IMO.

Great point about delivery times, this guy will be LAST on the list for delievery, and this dealership will get him back one way or another - And sell at a lost? WTF I dont think so.....

The price he has acheived is about the right price currently anyway - Alot of VW dealers are waiving on roads and stamp duty ATM, so thats like $3000 just there, before u even start negotiating the vehicle/extras etc....

reading this thread hurts my head, it looks like you got a fantastic deal though! salespeople aren't exactly the type of people to trust, they might have sold the car at a loss but it just doesn't make sense. Why would they spend hours to secure a deal that they don't actually want?

If it were end of month I probably wouldn't think twice about at, but seeing as its mid month I am surprised they dropped their pants so desperately. lol

Based on the fact that unlike NSW, VIC pays 5% stamp duty on the ENTIRE price if the cost is over $45k, I put the drive away price at somewhere around $56,900. This would mean a ~$8,150 discount, or ~14.3%

I can't see it mentioned whether a corporate discount was used or not. But regardless, that's definitely the best deal we've seen.

Although I agree with others that I wouldn't want to start the customer/dealer relationship for such an important purchase on the terms that wdong has done. With people screaming at each other and punching desks (if that isn't made up for 'dramatic effect'), then you can imagine that the dealer wouldn't be that willing to give you much time later on. You'd only need to drive into the parking lot and the dealer would see you and already be in a bad mood before you told him why you were there

    dammit!

this thread's turned into a bit of an asian generalisation thread...

I keep going back to the same VW dealer, the salesman I used to deal with is now fleet sales manager so he can look after me. I don't even need to bargain with them, they give me a price, I know it's the best price. I do think personal service is more important than getting every last dollar out of them...
