just drive it normally, vary the load but dont be afraid to hit the limiter after 1000klms. Modern close tolerance engines are good to go out of the box.

Congrats on your purchase.

I used / am using option 3 on my 118TSI. I have around 5k on it now and it has loosened up lovely. Only thing I would recommend for your trip is that you don't use cruise control. Just drive it normally and try to vary the revs.

10000ks before using maximum revs? You have to be joking.

The cars have been through a full rolling road run-in procedure at the end of the production line.

Drive it like you stole it, just don't cruise in 3rd at the redline for an interstate trip.

Exactly... but wait until engine is upto operating temp before giving it a bootful

Worse things for running in:

Excessive idling
Peak hour driving
Constant rpms

I took delivery of my GTI on Friday. The dealer said it was not a problem taking it the day before launch, even though it was the only one the dealership had with 18" Detroits. Even though he made me wait for 20 minutes after I arrived (wrapping up a new sale), he showered us with the full treatment: wine, flowers, iPod adapter for MDI thrown in, red carpet, and the fancy unveiling. I had a small audience when I drove her off the floor, even though it was early Friday afternoon. I've only done about 150km so far, but I've barely had the (Dynaudio) stereo on just so I can listen to the exhaust note. Creamworthy. Road trip this weekend!

Nice mate! I pick mine up Friday (3 sleeps) and I have a road trip planned already, so damn excited.

Congrats on the purchase Murph.

Got to say I prefer the 18" wheels over the standard detroits. It's the ones I copied and had refurbished in 17" for my 118TSI.

No worries on specs, and you can work out the price pretty easily. I folded like a deck of cards on everything except a couple of minor options....
