Brief ticking sound after turning ignition on

Got car back from dealership on Sat, and just noticed this morning after turning the
ignition key to "on position", but not starting the car....after approx 2 seconds there was a brief
fast ticking sound (approx 2-3 seconds long) coming from the front passenger side area.

Admittedly I had the radio muted as I was playing with some settings on it, but even after turning volume back on, I could still faintly hear it?

Just wondered if some of you GTI owners could check this out in your own cars
when you go out next time (mute radio) so I know service dept is not just telling
    me this is normal?
After searching on here there are similar threads, the closest being when the ignition is turned off.

Since its return, the trim directly above the headlights stwitch is sticking out on one side and after a bit of investigstion it appears that one of
the clips has been broken off the back of it GRRRR. Have notified them of this as it will need to be replaced.
Unsure who did this as the front sensors needed to be checked for sensitivity and they installed the on/off switch on the same panel as the
headlights switch, so may have run the wiring behind this trim?

I noted that a comment had been made about the AC compressor being the reason
for a ticking sound, I am just quiet surprised that I havent noticed it before today?
I am familiar with the noise when the drivers door is first opened, and (engine cooling fan?)

    Thanks in advance

I think that you're hearing sounds because you want to...
i.e. you've just had your car into the dealership and now you're "listening for things", whether consciously or not.

The sound is def. real....all I am wanting to know is if other GTI owners also have this so I know all is okay.
But IMO you are "partly correct" , if I am asked if I trust all the info from dealerships, eg its just a "characteristic" of the car, then the short answer is NO because of tales of woe on forums like this one. I value GTI owners opinions more and 3 cheers for forums.

Oh, the sound is 100% real. It's just you're now hearing it for the first time because you're listening for something wrong

There is no problem, it's normal. There are heaps of systems that do various jobs when you open the door, turn the ignition on and turn it off and they will operate and sound differently under different circumstances (ie heat with the electric water pump running and/or the fans running after shutdown) and trying to second guess the dealer is absolutely pointless as they know more about the car then you ever will. The car is under warranty so don't worry about it.

If you don't trust the dealer take it to another one.
