Love the wheels, but I don't really like the red....

Agree with the comment regarding white. Love white (or black) GTIs... Blue is nice with the R, but yeah that doesn't do it for me.. I dunno.

The yellow on reception looks pretty good.

Just out of interest Serge - how did you get this one into the country? Was it a special order? Are VW a little more flexible with allowing one-off colours now? A genuine mistake / oversight in the ordering process?

My last 3 cars have all been red, and the only thing to potentially hold me back from a MkVII R purchase would be the (un)availability of Tornado Red.

Serge. A few points from my end.

1. The price seems high, given that the only options are 19s, sunroof. The Tornado Red colour is obviously unique (for the Golf R anyway, but common as on the GTI), but it is a normal production run colour and not metallic. Indeed, this colour is available in Europe/USA.

2. The red shown here isn't like the Mercedes Designo or BMW individual range where a one-off colour (e.g. which matches your favourite shirt/lounge etc) outside the normal run commands a premium of $6,000-$10,000. My mate's boss has a C63 in special order yellow which cost around that, partly because they had to completely shut down the paint line just to paint it (as I am sure you are aware, they paint a whole run of colours at once)

3. While I appreciate that this is a one-off and someone might willingly pay the premium for it, I do find it a tad hard to swallow such a difference for a colour which does not stand out in the way a yellow/blue/green etc does. But, if you can find someone who appreciates it and will pay the premium, all the best with that.

finance analyst, u just said what a lot of people were thinking. of course its high at almost $70k, its laughable actually, but its carsales, what are u gonna do. if someone is willing to pay a premium just because, then they will.
its not unlike how people r willing to pay a premium to not wait 6-12 months for a car. car dealers slap a hefty profit margin if they think they can get away with it. some punter might bite.
its business, i dont blame them. i wouldnt pay it, and u can add my 2c to ur 2c, but we're still short a few thousand. if we get enough 2c then we might be able to buy it

Funny I wasn't thinking that, if you run through the options add it to the base price then on roads it MRRP. So it is a starting point of conversation with the advertiser.. you think he is going to put up a discounted number only to have us yokels come in a negotiate it down further.. geez louise
