I'll let you know how it all goes. The repairer its going to seems friendly enough. They've ordered the new bumper, which they said will take around 7 days to come in. They then have to paint it and mount it. I then have to wait three weeks for the paint to cure before I get the paint protection reapplied by the dealer...but I have to get a quote for that first. Regardless, the insurer will have to pay whatever the price is, as this is the only dealer that does this paint protection (I know, I fell for the paint protection scam...but I did get a very good deal on it + tint).

I also have to get them to redo the paint protection (warranty) as it seems they left ALOT of swirl marks on the paint. I don't think they buffed it before they applied the protection.

Why did I buy this car again?

Actually, I did that after hitting Wombat.
Went to first (Surly) quote giver. Requested est on patch job rear bumper. (Backed into a tree late at night)
Refused to give one, said no matter what, had to full warrenty!! (Shades of AAMI?) Would only quote new bumper.
Second repairer only too happy to dismantle, patch, (a bit of epoxy repair) paint and reassemble bumper, as seperate item.
Told AAMI 2nd repairer preffered as able to do small job for me. AAMI approved, as only small differance. (Actually, No 2 clued in)
BUT after all that, a few months later, TPI driver tried to park in my car rear in 50K zone!! Gee, He really was concerned, felt very sorry
for him. In the end, although could have perhaps obtained a lone car from panel beaters, charge it to him, did not bother.
Hey, HIS car, Hyundi, was only just drivable!

    Added reply
Re paint protect or upholstery protect.
    1. Had upholstery protect added to present car. apart from added chemicals on windscreen, no benefit.
    2. Re paint protect, refused offer present car, considered "Why does manufacturer require thired party product" OK, perhaps in seaside
area could be justified. But not at beach!
    3. On ordering present Golf, sales lady gave VERY strong sales talk about how good new product was. But again, why needed? As chatted with Sales manager
beside my tradein, pointed out good condition of paint, after VERY minimal maint" (8YR old)
    4. BUT, MOST iportant in my mind, was possible problem of having to remove all thes extra coatings of "Magic stuff" before new paint could be applied,
let alone having "Magic stuff" applied again! (Hope it was covered by ins)

In Europe they salt the roads during the winter to help with the snow and ice. So European cars have to be galvanised etc - and this is why they have their 12 year body warranties. This makes European cars especially useful for people living on the coast in Australia. Still no need to get this type of "magic" paint protection though. Only useful paint protection is the film variety

I assume though, that since it is part of my insurance policy, that they will have to pay to get it redone. I don't believe it should matter. I've paid for it, it's listed as an option on my policy, and the PDS says they will return my car to its condition before the accident....before the accident I had paint protection.

I also live super close to the beach...about 100 metres.

Hey guys. So, finally, new bumper came in last week, brought it in yesterday to get fixed up, and I've got it back already. Only took them a day and a half. Visually, looks perfect. Can't really tell. It's gloomy outside though. Wait until it is sunny. Looks as though the colour matches.

Homebush Panel Beaters is where I ended up taking it. In the end, they've been pretty good, so my apologies for my rants.

Only thing is the car has 1700 km's on it, and still smelled new. The panel beaters have detailed it and left a stinky, nasty air freshener that smells like one of those bathroom sprays. I've thrown it out. Pray the smells goes away.
