    Brake and Accelerator pressed at same time

    G'day all. My Mk6 has a quirk as follows: When taking off from a standing start, if the brake pedal is feathered just as the accelerator pedal is engaged, then because the brake is still on, the accelerator does not respond and it feels like the car is in neutral (albeit it is still in Drive). It doesn't happen often but when it does it is annoying and potentially dangerous.

    Spoke to an experienced Indy today and he said this is quite common and can easily be fixed by a "fly by wire"software upgrade and he pointed me in the right direction to a transmission specialist in Paramatta (quite far from where I live on the Northshore so inconvenient).

    I rang the stealership and they predictably said they had never heard of such a phenomenan but they would be happy to "diagnose" the problem at a cost of $320.

    Would appreciate feedback from anyone who has experienced this and what they did to fix it- hopefully its a simple (and cheap) software upgrade.

    It's not a phenomenon. It's how the car is designed to function.

    But yes, aftermarket mapping of the ECU can override it in some cases.

    Thanks Umai. Would you recommend re-mapping the ECU or is there a way to prevent it happening by changing driving style?. I've only had the car for 2 weeks so apologies for my ignorance. If it does need re-mapping, typically what sort of cost should I be expecting? Presumably this should be done at an experienced Indy- could you recommend anyone, hopefully close to the Northshore. Thank you very much.

    Just using one foot to drive the car would prevent it from happening and be free??

    Unfortunately not. The issue is arising when only one foot is used, but the brake is feathered

    You don't pull off the brake and straight onto the throttle? Does it happen on a hill maybe?

    Yeah don't use two feet to drive a DSG (auto). It's not a go kart.

    Should also point out that these cars have Hillstart assist so do not require use of brake to prevent roll back, it only engages when detects hill slope though. Mine works brilliantly i must say. Do not be concerned with dsg minor flare of revs on take off, these cars should be almost thought of as manual transmission to some degree, i know mine will hunt for clutch engagement in 2nd at low speed and also in reverse. It's normal, if you ever drove older smg Bmw then you'd never complain about a Vw dsg . All the best.

    You want bad? Try a current diesel Hyundai i30 with their version of a dual-clutch auto - absolutely diabolical...
